Perfume and Cologne Makers Add Untested Chemicals to Products


Applying many of the perfumes, colognes and body sprays on the market today can mean subjecting oneself to a dozen different secret chemicals, some which can cause allergic reactions or disrupt human hormones.

A report by The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics and the Environmental Working Group uncovered 38 untested chemicals in 17 name brand fragrance products. The average product tested contained 14 chemicals not listed on the label, including those with allergy or hormonal implications for some consumers. Three products—Halle by Halle Berry, Quicksilver and Jennifer Lopez J. Lo Glow—each contained six different chemicals that can mimic the hormone estrogen, plus a seventh known to affect the thyroid gland.

The products containing the most secret chemicals were American Eagle Seventy Seven with 24, Chanel Coco with 18, and Britney Spears Curious and Giorgio Armani Acqua Di Gio for men with 17.

THEY must list everything. We can choose to ignore but those of us who have to be careful of ingredients must be able to tell what's in our products.

They don't know why I avoid them... yeeech.
