Can someone explain to me what they are saying on CNN?

They are thinking of cutting the riser pipe and trying to capture the oil in a containment device now?

What a fucking goat rope.

1. There was an article last week about that tactic.

Complete idiocy to try it. They were considering cutting the pipe just above the BOP, and then putting a sealed cap over it.

One of the dumbest ideas yet. I didn't think they were still considering it.

10. I haven't seen that option.

The one I read was a cut and seal to a new pipe.

"Among plans under consideration for the gusher, BP is looking at cutting the riser pipe, which extends from the well, undersea and using larger piping to bring the gushing oil to a drill ship on the surface, a tactic considered difficult and less desirable because it will increase the flow of oil."

The past few minutes I've noticed small clouds and right when I began posting this a cloud is getting much larger.

Wish I knew what I'm looking at.

ETA: Now I have the blue screen with light streaks running through it as though they've killed the feed.

4. That's if top kill doesn't work.

The next option is to cut the riser pipe so that the "Top Hat" will have more of snug fit. Which will help keep seawater out and hydrates from forming. In the diagram, the hat thingie has an antifreeze component although I don't know if the actual cap will have it.

The hat method will also help capture most of the oil although they may have to let some escape.
