Perhaps it's time the US had a
"professional" Secretary of the Interior. I've thought about this previous to the Gulf Disaster, but now it seems far more important. In the entire history of Interior, there has never been a biologist, forester, botanist, geologist, wildlife expert, zoologist or even a chemist or geographer. We have had a long line of lawyers, campaign contributors, businessmen and other political hacks. The closest we have had to a scientist are a couple MD's. We need the best and the brightest, not the well-connected.

2. I was hoping more from Obama than
Ken Salazar for SOI. So much for change.

7. I wasn't optimistic about Obama
I read his website (the detailed stuff) when he was running for the nomination. I correctly identified him as, um, far less than liberal.

Still, he was (and is) better than anything else on offer.

13. Reminds me of Caddyshack
Judge Smails-"I'm no slouch myself"

Ty Webb-"Don't sell yourself short Judge, You're an incredible slouch"

Now I'm not saying all the SOI's have been awful (just most of them), but it's time we put some substance into the office and not use it as a poltical gravytrain.

11. Yeah, well you just summed up Washington DC.
The birthplace and incubator for crony capitalism, and while they didn't invent it, they have evolved nepotism to an art-form.
