If the top kill is a success, here is what we will be hearing:
"Why did it take so long to try this?"

And what will the answer be?

2. They are already saying they had to make sure part of the BOP were
operational and physics stuff.

My theory is that this was the last resort. Previous efforts would have 'saved offshore drilling'. Showing that we are capable of dealing with an accident. Top Kill proves we aren't capable and shutting it down is the only option. Let's hope it works. And lets hope our representatives in DC get the wake up call.

3. You are correct and what will be the answer?
I would hazard institutional inertia and staging time.

There is a constant tension between genius, process, and status quo.

Really there are just too many people on the world and growth is a virtue or necessity for our institutions.

7. No, this is third solution, three more to come: LMRP, Junk Shot, and BOP on BOP.
I'm following this shit.

What I don't know is why they didn't just go for BOP on BOP or the LMRP right off the bat.

8. Next is Jump Shot-
where they stuff the BOP with basketballs.

Hey don't laugh, might just work.

9. Especially since the LMRP solution sounds safer...
and likely to allow BP to capture most of the leaking oil which as we've all figured out is the most-important thing from their standpoint.

5. They are in deep shit either way.
Either they were dicking around wanting to buy time for the relief wells or some other form of incompetence or corruption.

(In deep shit)

or

They were caught with not enough experience, they had to run tests on the BOP to see if what works above ground or in shallow waters would work there.
This is their official story, it took time to test all these things.

(Also in deep shit. Drilling without proven solutions, no more holes for you)

Now, we can argue about whether or not the consequences will match the scenarios, but nobody can say that they aren't stuck with looking really bad no matter what they say.

6. They were following known and standard procedure
(Which they were)

In the end even if this works (I hope, it doesn't work every time), they STILL need to finish doing the relief wells. That again is the final solution to this.

Not sure

16. IT was an incredibly complex engineering problem involving fluid dynamics
and structural dynamics combined with the physics of incredibly high pressures nobody is really certain about.

It took people with doctorates in various disciplines of engineering and physics 40 days to work through the variables in order to do it without blowing out the pipes underground making the matter worse than when they strted the Top Kill maneuver.

Nobel prize winning physicists were called in to work this problem in an effort rivaling the Manhattan project with time constraints similar to the Apollo 13 disaster.
