Question for mathematicians/oddsmakers.
Edited on Thu May-27-10 02:44 AM by moondust
Given that there are around 48,000 oil rigs operating in the Gulf of Mexico and given the perceived greedy nature of oil companies (leading to sometimes irresponsible behavior), what are the odds of a major oil spill/disaster occurring in the Gulf over a period of, say, 10 years? 30 years? 50 years?

2. Too many variables, and not enough major spills to do anything but guess.
That said. They are fairly low, and with decent regulatory enforcement lower still.

The question that should be asked, is can those odds be made ACCEPTABLY low?
