The CNN cams are offline for me.

According to some comments at The Oil Drum they've had intermittent network problems. It was down for me for several hours. Just checked after seeing your post and saw the one above streaming again.

OnEdit: And now the CNN cams are up and the BP link is coming in and out. Watching the CNN links side by side with the direct BP link shows that the riser cam is going in and out there also.

3. I have linux and apparently it's not supported on BP's site. can get CNN and NPR n/t

Mplayer-plugin will play it.

If the cam is down, however, it will just "stop" without actually giving any kind of message that it's down.

OnEdit: Removed redundancy. You already mentioned you could get the CNN cams.

Looks like CNN has temporarily lost their access to the feed. Somebody is manning the monitor bank and is obviously working on reconnecting.

8. Quite so ...

The only (minor) problem I have with it now is weeding out comments by people who signed up within the past couple weeks and wander in there pretending they know something, trying to start arguments with old-timers.

They're not really hard to spot, though, and I'm starting to get a handle on who those with genuine knowledge are. It's not hard really. They understand they math and aren't afraid to use it. :)
