Mark Twain To Reveal All After 100 Year Wait
'The Independent reports that one of Mark Twain's dying wishes is at last coming true: an extensive, outspoken and revelatory autobiography which he devoted the last decade of his life to writing is finally going to be published one hundred years after his death.

Twain, the pen name of Samuel Clemens, left behind 5,000 unedited pages of memoirs when he died in 1910, together with handwritten notes saying that he did not want them to hit bookshops for at least a century, but in November, the University of California, Berkeley, where the manuscript is in a vault, will release the first volume of Mark Twain's three-volume autobiography.

Scholars are divided as to why Twain wanted his autobiography kept under wraps for so long, with some believing it was because he wanted to talk freely about issues such as religion and politics...

I had no idea such a manuscript existed. Wonderful news. I eagerly await the first volume in November.

4. While his autobiography may resolve some questions about Twain,
I have a feeling that it will probably end up raising even more questions and debate about him.

6. and that may have been his intent.
one possible reason to wait 100 years is to deny anyone alive at the time of his demise (the one that WASN'T greatly exaggerated) any opportunity to refute whatever claims he comes out with. so we're left to speculate as to whether clemens is telling the truth or just having yet another joke on us.

5. I think they have been waiting because

like Elvis and Jim Morrison, turns out that rumors of ol'Sam's death, have in fact, been greatly exaggerated...

7. I thought "Letters from the Earth"
was the last manuscript that wasn't to be released for 100 years. That his daughter, only surviving relative released on her death bed so it wouldn't be lost.

9. There are still reams of his unpublished writings
Enough probably to keep him in the headlines well into the next century.

10. This is going to be exciting just to learn what the most outspoken
writer in the last century, felt he had to self-censor.
