In Chicago Area, BP gas is suddenly much cheaper...
Edited on Thu May-27-10 04:57 AM by Stuart G
BP has always been the most expensive gas in this area.. always
Now it is among the very cheapest out there. Yesterday, their price was equal to ..(not below) the competition. and consistent with the low price leader, an outfit called Thortons ..

BP has always been 10 to 15 cents higher than Thortons, now it is equal. My guess is that soon it will be less, much less.

Ultimate Assholes..

1. That or the fact it's a big travel weekend.
Gas in general is down about $0.30 since a few weeks ago.

12. They're trying to preempt a boycott.
This is Memorial Day weekend coming up. This is when they JACK the price up not the other way around.

3. The price of gas is down across the board, I'm hearing, not just BP.
I'm not complaining, especially when it usually goes up during the summer/holidays.

4. Where I live gas dropped overnight to $2.55 from $2.59 just before the Memorial Day weekend.
Perhaps a month ago here it was at $2.94/gallon. Here in La Crosse a regional string of convenience stores called Kwik Trip sets the price in the city and everyone else follows. There is no variation in the price of gas.

We once had a BP station but it didn't last long because it could not compete with the Kwik Trips.

5. I believe that BP will be offering cheap gas for a very long time,
A year, perhaps more. A trick to get some eyes off of what they have done. Say $2.00 everywhere in U.S.A. for a year. A little less in some places, but no more than two. So people will not see the real meaning of this. Some will bite, sadly.

11. They'll never go that low.
Because if they did, the competition would have to drop their prices to compete, and this thieving corrupt industry would NEVER allow that.

10. This has not been my experience in the Chicago area.
For years it always seemed that Amoco was considerably more expensive than the competition, but since they changed over to BP a few years ago it seems they have been as cheap as anyone else.
