Pollster: More Voters Know McMahon, Less They Like Her

By CQ-Roll Call Staff | May 27, 2010 7:46 AM

Quinnipiac University is out with a poll that was in the field a week after the revelations that Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal has been overstating his experience in the Marine Reserves.

Democrat Blumenthal, who led Senate rival Linda McMahon (R) by a whopping 61 percent to 28 percent back in March now leads McMahon by a still-whopping 56 percent to 31 percent.

And though McMahon, the former wrestlng CEO, can rightfully say that she has cut down Blumenthal's margin, Connecticut voters just plain don't like her. The Quinnipiac Poll found that 32 percent of those surveyed had a favorable opinion of McMahon, while 39 percent said they had an unfavorable opinion -- and that unfavorability number has grown.

"Her negatives went up 13 points from 26 percent unfavorable to 39 percent unfavorable," said Quinnipiac University Poll Director Douglas Schwartz. "The more voters get to know McMahon the less they like her."

For McMahon, the thumbs-down in the polling numbers is the second slap in two days.

Yesterday, a fellow Republican who dropped out of the Senate race because he couldn't compete financially with a millionaire self-funder told National Review Online that he doesn't think McMahon can win and he won't be helping what he sees as her losing cause.

Ex-Rep. Rob Simmons said that he'll be "preoccupied" if McMahon comes asking for help.

He apologized in an interview with POLITICO later in the day.

The Quinnipiac survey was taken May 24-25. The sample size was 1,159 and the margin of error was 2.9 percentage points.

1. Ahhh, the harsh truth - Voters equipped with facts disdain republicon and...
republicon BS.

Republicons have only themselves to blame, for having turned their backs on America and Americans.

2. It's so typically republican. Dump the guy who stood by the party......
all those years and just go with the person with the big money selling the same old worn out shit. They have absolutely no principles whatsoever.
Of course they are republicans and that explains a lot.

3. Gee, maybe if she hadn't "fed" that story to the NYT she wouldn't
have come off as sleazy. Or thrown all that money around on ads. I am sick of seeing her all over my tv and am disgusted that she wants to buy this election. I am glad I am not the only one in Connecticut that thinks that.
