"Top Kill" Round 2 is underway
Top BP executive has told CNN that they have re-started the top kill in the past hour.

http://us.cnn.com/2010/US/05/27/gulf.oil.spill/index.html

Round 1 did not stop the flow of oil according to the news conference held by BP officials over an hour ago. They did stop pumping mud 16 hours ago. That is a sharp contrast to what admiral Allen was saying this morning.

From the looks of it I would say the oil gusher has gotten much worse. Assuming what has been gushing out is oil and not mud. :(

1. Where are you seeing this?
BP's home page has been focused on the robot-boobz for the last half hour or so.

4. It's really termed the JUNK SHOT. They gave up on TOP KILL over 16 hours ago
when they ceased pumping mud. I don't trust BP. :(

6. It more like a junk shot + top kill hybrid.
They are injecting mud into BOP = top kill but to increase downward pressure they are also injecting "junk" mixed in with drilling mud.

The goal is the junk catches in the BOP and directs a greater % of the mud flow downward into the well.

5. With Ixtoc 1, they tried a junk shot...
and it failed to stop the flow, but the consensus is that it did reduce it.

Next up if this fails is Top Hat 2.

9. I will wager that almost all of the "mud" exited the leaks
Along with nearly the same volume of crude and methane gas, if not more. So round one likely just made things worse...:-(

Hoping that round two with junk added is much more successful, but does not make the leaks worse.

10. Somehow Matthews has got it into his head
that using super tankers could suck up the oil. He is trying to get his guests to agree. The last guy on said in the Gulf of Mexico it is not easy to do. That the tankers are huge and they can't be moved around. That using them in the Arab spill worked because they had more area. But he didn't think they could be used in the Gulf. One reason is the oil is spread over a wider area also. So that shut him up.
