be more assertive during this month long catastrophe has been very disturbing. It has seemed almost like he doesn't care about the oil spill. He put out a few token statements and then moved on to other things. Obama has a shaky reputation on the environment to begin with after opening the east coast to drilling a few weeks ago before the spill (what bad timing that was!) and this does not help that impression.
Finally he came out the other day and did what he should have done when this mess first started and was bold and assertive and took responsibility and expressed regret over his previous performance in this matter. i hope it is not too little too late.
BP should have to go into bankruptcy after all the damage this oil spill has caused and will cause, empty their coffers to try and pay as much damages as they can to the millions of people affected and the billions in environmental clean up (though they will never be able to cover all of it) and then should never be heard from again.
Further, all deep water offshore drilling should be halted permanently in United States waters, until a near fail safe solution is found so this never happens again. If no such solution is found, then the ban will be permanent until one is found.
My opinion.
