Something's happening on the BP cam...

Looks like a new leak has opened up under the ROV that's holding onto the kinked riser pipe...

2. Yeah it's been a lot of gush for the past couple hours
I haven't been watching closely, just noticing that it appears to be more intense.

In the belly of the smoke monster!

4. Just speculation but
perhaps they are removing the riser pipe in preparation for the top hat.

5. yes. and it looks really grey, so maybe I'm behind on this, but they must be trying to cement it
Edited on Fri May-28-10 04:41 PM by Divine Discontent

6. There haven't been any indications
that they have been able to inject enough mud down the well to enable them to plug it with cement. So I would be surprised if it was cement. The latest report from the NYT through an anonymous source is that they halted the top kill after 2 junk shot attempts early this morning.

10. Can't cement flowing liquids.
To cement a well you need to STOP the well first.

Push mud into well until well is at a standstill (no upward or downard movement).
Push cement into well then push more mud on top of that.

Essentially a mud - cement - mud sandwich. The hold it in place (via pressure) until the mud hardens.

Pumping cement into a flowing well like this is like sprinkling cement into the Mississippi river to build a dam.
