There's an energy bill that's been sitting in the cooler for months that had become a political football. While I still don't see Congress getting to it until after the elections, the pressure should be put on them during this campaign about supporting loans and tax incentives for the wholescale development of alternative energy. Even if the President proclaimed big changes, Congress controls the purse string and it's their responsibility to enact laws to reign in the corporate greed that led to this disaster and open doors for a future, long-term solution to our oil addiction.
Our corporate media demands this President have "bull-horn" moments and appear to be fully aborbed in this crisis...and then will blame him for not focusing should a different or the next crisis occur. We've seen a lot of misinformation about what this administration is doing and I expect more as those with agendas try to use the outrage to their advantage. In short, while I'd love to see President Obama punch Tony Heyward in the nards, I prefer crisis management that actually manages, doesn't constantly hold press conferences. We had enough "token" leadership in the previous regime.
Cheers...
