House ponders just when to wind down unemployment benefits

The House has extended unemployment insurance approximately three times this year, but discussions have begun on how to wind down the benefit.

“There is a sense that the economy is recovering and this is not a new entitlement,” Rep. Earl Pomeroy (D-N.D.) told The Hill, adding, “We need to get down to the business of hearing some congressional deliberations in terms of winding down the long-term extensions of unemployment.”

The House on Friday passed a jobs bill that extends unemployment insurance through November, which adds approximately $40 billion to the deficit. Pomeroy said the measure’s cost created more anxiety for members when compared to April, which was the last time Congress extended the benefit.

“Support for this extension of unemployment compensation relief had a different level of support this time,” he said. “There was a lot more discussion.”

Guess they are going to throw the long term unemployed under the bus, but pump billions into a war for oil. Hope those folks being shat on remembers in November -- and VOTES them OUT.

1. actually it does`t add 40 billion in debt.
but it sounds good for those who want a permanent slave class in the country.

3. “There is a sense that the economy is recovering..."
well, for all practical purposes for most of us, that sense is WRONG.

WHERE ARE THE JOBS?

Without them, the economy can not "recover" to a degree worth a damn to anyone who isn't a billionaire.

Anyone who votes to end unemployment benefits sure as hell won't get my vote.

4. how about when unemployment gets down to 3-4%?
The 'sense' of a 'recovery' is not evidenced by the unemployment numbers.

5. Gotta love it
I don't see the situation on the ground improving, but any excuse will do to funnel that money to people who don't really need it.

After all, when they cut the things that help people, the budget deficits never really get smaller, do they?
