What's up with Biden not even SHOWING UP in the polls?
In GD there's a mention of Edwards winning Texas in an e-vote. Someone posted a chart showing who stood where in the standings. Biden's name wasn't even on the chart! This is not unusual, as we know.

Despite all the things he's done and his impressive background, he doesn't seem to making a ripple in the national consciousness when it comes to the run for the WH.

Does anybody have an explanation for this? Seriously, I'm flummoxed.

1. Not a clue
I was watching MSNBC off and on all day because of the hearings and I thought someone at least on Hardball would mention Biden after his MTP appearance. He is truly relevant right now, but still ignored. WELL, there's always tomorrow. He is a pro in senate hearings.

I've visited various blogs and the Biden-bashing is overwhelming. Months to go before the primaries and the dirty politics is intra-party! What are the Dems doing, trying to self-destruct??

2. Biden-bashing...
With all the bashing I've seen (for every candidate), I'm reminded of a man I worked with who was newly converted to Catholicism. One night we both stayed late and I found REAMS of articles he'd printed out PROVING that Mormons were a cult. I just didn't understand why someone would need to expend so much energy in hating "the other" rather than finding comfort and happiness in where he was. So I wonder about the political bashers, too -- I don't need to convince others that they're wrong, I just need to follow my own instincts and do what I think is right. Wish the bashers felt that way!

3. There are so many of them!
And it is so pathetic. They really don't have much to say. They generally just throw out one line insults. I'm picturing lonely, angry people who don't have anything better to do. They don't seem to realize that isn't enough to be "against" something, you have to be "for" something.

I've posted a few messages here and there with a rational tone. They generally don't respond, as they are looking for confrontation, not reason.

4. I don't understand it either.
I look at Biden at wonder how anyone could support anyone else.

Do you think his campaign is part of the problem, for not being aggressive enough?
Biden doesn't even have a slogan - a soundbite - that people can attach to him.

I watch Obama's campaign events on C-Span (I am biting my tongue here about Obama) and he says nothing other
than how he is going to change the country, and he bashes Bush. That's it. There's 20k people there and they
are cheering. When people ask him questions as he walks thru the crowds, he brushes them off. It's unreal.
Then I watch Biden. He has so much substance. Small crowds. They ask him questions, he looks them in the eye
and answers them - in detail.
Hillary talks in soundbites as well, but she goes into more detail, but nowhere near the amount Biden does.
Edwards talks in detail - but for a very short time.
Do you think Biden needs to tone it down a bit?

Another thing I have noticed with Edwards and Obama is that at the end of every stump speech they tell the crowds that they need their help, to sign a pledge card before leaving. I have never heard Biden say that. Have you?

What do you think it is?
Why isn't the most qualified candidate catching on??

5. How frustrating that the world can't see what we see!
You may have a point about his campaign not being aggressive enough. But as it is, the poor guy is popping up on shows all the time, jetting off to Iraq, don't really know what more they could do. Which is why he needs professionals and not just doe-eyed supporters like me running the show. I nominate James Carville.

Well put about Obama kind of blowing off the details. I just saw a headline someplace where Dodd "challenged" Obama that he hadn't articulated a PLAN for Iraq. Excuse me? Biden's had a plan and has been promoting it for a long time, as we all know. (I wonder if this took place last night at the Univision debate where Biden wasn't there to fly over the podium and start throttling Dodd.)

I don't think he needs to town it down -- it's his passion that is so refreshing and REAL.

I do think part of the problem is that the media has decided he's not top-tier, therefore not worth their time covering. How aggravating! And heartbreaking.

6. If ...
Joe "toned" it down would he still be Joe or another copy of Hillary, Obama, Edwards, etc.?

I do wonder sometimes if his campaign is aggressive enough, especially about fund raising.

On Joes's blog a poster responded to the fund raising issue ; Joe said he had enough money to compete in Iowa and also that if a candidate did well in Iowa, the money would flow in. If not he would be done so I take him at his word. Not word for word, but the same meaning. So I thought to myself, this person is not contributing, because he thinks Joe has enough money to compete in Iowa.

Yet there was the need to fundraise for his ads to be played across Iowa.
This poster had to know that because he posts almost everyday on the blog.

I remember last time when I supported John Kerry, the bloggers and the campaign were
very active in raising money through the blog and his website. Beats me.

7. Am I right in thinking his sister is kind of in charge of his campaign?
Not sure where -- or if -- I heard that. If so, and she's not a 'pro', that could be the problem, regardless of how sharp or smart she is.

I'm watching the hearings right now -- His opening statement was impressive. I'm hoping that others on their YouTube clips, and media coverage, will feature him a bit, and get people thinking... I can't see Obama or Edwards coming off as well as he did. I've seen Hillary in these situations and she's excellent, but she doesn't inspire the trust in me that Biden does.

Plus... Biden just LOOKS so presidential!

9. Yes, and it is not open for discussion.

She has run all of his campaigns, even the first one when he ran for President. She also ran Beau's campaign for Attorney General in Delaware. I sometimes wonder about this ,also. I beleive she worked on the Kerry campaign as well. He has other very good people working on his campaign.

12. His sister Val has run all his campaigns
His first campaign for the senate was brilliant. They did multiple "coffees" before he announced he was running. He had his name and face out there first. He won a supposedly un-winable race.

8. I'm glad you said the most qualified
It bothers me to hear Hillary saying she is the most qualified.

I also wish Biden would get more attention.

Our country needs Biden.

10. Guttman nails it!
And he loves Biden.

He discusses what's lacking in all the candidates, but I only care about what he said about Biden:

Biden is lively and has a very competent record in foreign policy but is not seen as exciting to the voters according to most of the polls in early primary and caucus states.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/robert-guttman/the-winner-none-of-the-_b_63546.html

I think he put his finger on it - that is what is lacking from Biden's campaign.
He needs to figure out a way to make himself/ his campaigns more exciting.

thoughts?

11. My daughter was just here with her fiance
who is NOT a Biden fan. So we sort of forced him to watch Biden's IAFF speech and he was speechless (not the norm). At the end, I said, "That was the best political speech I'd ever seen" and amazingly he agreed!

If we could only get everyone to at least watch that speech, I think he would win over a lot of people.

I want to post it here but it is long and I don't know what the limit is. Does anyone know?

Did you say tomorrow? And you're not a nervous wreck?

Are you going to do it, or am I?
Post about how wonderful Biden was today?
Obama is getting the kudos in gd-p, and remind me never to
post a negative thread about Obama again! geez. I understand his supporters
alot better now...

Let me know. Or we can both do it lol

14. It was my third time watching it
It never gets old.

They're getting married today and HE gave ME a present - his membership card to the RNC!!! He is a political junkie and claims I converted him to the Dems.

Nah, I'm not nervous. This has been coming for a long time and they chose to be unconventional, which is fine with me.

You go ahead and post. I'm getting tired.............

15. Congratulations!!!
Not only on your daughter getting married, but getting out
of a big wedding! And converting her fiance'!!

I too am tired.
And I have to catch up around here.

But later - I will. I'm thinking of doing a thread of all of his great quotes, and throw in some headlines.
He is all over the news :)

16. Thanks
I'm not fond of big, expensive weddings. I think the whole thing has gotten out of control!

I'm going to watch Biden on Hardball now! Gotta wind down a bit.
