Why is Biden such an "unknown"?
Edited on Tue Sep-18-07 07:02 PM by malta blue
I have spoken with several people in the past week who I pegged as generally average people as far as their intelligence and exposure to the world and none of them had even HEARD of Joe Biden, much less knew his position on issues?
:wtf:

How is this possible that he is so unknown? Or were these people really just living under rocks?

1. No, wish they were just living under rocks!
but it's just as simple as the media doesn't give him the same coverage the top three get.
It seems to me that the media does not want Biden elected -period end of story. Why?? Because he's not a corporate junkie like the rest of them. Why do you think he has no where near the funding that Hillary and Obama have????
I live in New England and near Boston and I'm quite dismayed that even here in our lovely Democratic state no one has heard of Joe Biden either! I'm constantly telling people who he is. It's quite frustrating. The media here doesn't cover him hardly at all. Sad, really. My husband said the other day that the most qualified man to be President probably will get overlooked in this election. Biden would go down in history as one of our greatest Presidents if he gets the chance. He's a man of honor and integrity. Something the White House needs very badly!!!!!

2. Not everyone is a political junkie
Joe Biden has appeared regularly on Meet the Press and Hardball, but these are shows that average people don't generally watch.

4. I've been addicted for several years now
But that is because of Bush. Joe Biden was always a breath of fresh air though and made the rest look like scripted robots.

5. One thing I love about Joe is he never got rich while being a Senator,
Most of them seem to use the system to their own financial advantage. I'm sure he has had many opportunities.

6. My Republican brother in SC learned about Joe through the Imus show.
He told me he would vote for him in the General Election if he were the Democratic nominee.

14. The media loves a "good story" and they love to
go on about John & Elizabeth Edwards and how much they have overcome (I am NOT making light of their situation at all). Biden had a wife and daughter killed, 2 brain aneurysms (sp?) and one would think the media would jump all over that story too.

It's just odd that someone who has been around for 35 years is almost a complete unknown.

19. He speaks well, he doesn't play the word game
Usually that works well with the media, But, that is the problem, the media. He is not a member of the Chosen Ones. The only glimmer of hope is that Iowa "gets him" and shocks us all.

Health care is a serious issue but, not as Critical as Iraq, honoring our Constitution and laws, Critical. Our military is Critical. We are destroying it. Remember Russia? I believe Biden understands all these issues and has the intelligence to deal with them.

10. I am a North Carolinian living in Wake County.
Wake County is one of the fastest growing counties in the country. Raleigh, the state capital, is in Wake County. I have a lot of relatives in the state--all over--because my Mom was one of eleven children. Most all of them are Democrats, but many are blue dogs, unlike myself.

I get along well with most all my relatives, even my South Carolina Republican brother, who is an easy going good old boy. I had to explain to him that DailyKos was not a hate group, despite what he heard on Fox News. :)

8. It's gotta be because of the media -
unless you watch Sunday shows or C-Span, you probably wouldn't know who he was :(

More the reason for me to order that bumpersticker.

13. $$$. That in itself seems to garner lots of news coverage. A big part of the
stories on the "Top Three" was how big their war chests were. It's always money. Doesn't that just suck?

I just don't see it with him.

I could make a list of the reasons why.

I'm baffled when it comes to him.

21. Me either
He flaunts his rather impressive resume but he is a poor speaker, coming across as ill-prepared and insecure. He also has a bad habit of just rattling off his qualifications like ingredients for a recipe.

Money is major, yet why are so few donating to him? He is truly smart. He seems sincere. He would make a great peacemaker around the world, deal intelligently with Iraq and also knows what is needed in the U.S. Guess that explains the lack of funds, he won't "play the game".

The poor guy has about 6.5 million to work with. That is ridiculous for someone of his character and experience. I have never donated to a campaign other than local but I have sent a few bucks to him. If there were millions of us that sent/send a small amount he could possibly be a real contender. Remember Howard Dean, he got big bucks from the little people.

The money Hillary & Barrack have is mind boggling. Any Dem will be an improvement but it is hard to get past the question of who is bought and paid for.

22. I want to see Biden start asking for money -
I have been 'talking' with a couple of supporters that after he gives his
powerful, moving speech on what we need to do to get out of Iraq, that he should add
"I can't do it without you - please sign up so together we can
bring our troops home".

Everytime I see one of Obama's or Hillary's campaign events on C-Span, they ALWAYS ask the audience to sign up.

People kid Biden about his ego - yes he has one - but when it comes to asking for donations - he comes off too humble.

And now that everyone is talking about Hillary being funded by lobbyists - it would be a great time for Biden to tell
people that he is not, and that he needs their support so he can compete with the big bucks.

Just some ideas from someone that is obsessed with getting this man to the WH.

23. Pirhana- I am with you there!!!
Joe does have alot of pride and an ego. I am reading his book and when he was elected Senator all of a sudden everyone wanted to send him money AFTER the election. And the silly fool wanted to return it! If it wasn't for his brother Jimmy he would have returned that $20,000. Jimmy convinced him to keep it because he had mortgaged his house to keep his ads going in the last few weeks of the race. Joe is big on pride and very humble and doesn't like hand-outs. But I completetly agree w/ you that he had better start asking for help soon otherwise he's going to go broke before this race really heats up.
PS- No sticker on the car???? You????? Actually I've had mine for a while too and at one point had it taped to the window. This weekend it's going on the bumper after I wash it- Saab or no. It better come off though later!!!!

Not only will more people see it, you can be a little rough when you want to remove it.

If Biden gets the nom, I'm never taking it off!

26. I wonder how much the personal wealth of Clinton, Edwards and Obama
has anything to do with their being able to get the biggest pile of money in contributions. Is it because they hob-nob with the rich and famous in their daily lives so their friends had an easier time of putting a comma in their donations?

I heard Joe talk about mowing the lawn -- I can't imagine Hillary (or Bill) or Edwards doing that -- probably not Obama, either.

He says he's not rich because of all his years in public service. There are plenty of people in public service who are rolling in dough now, which to me proves Joe isn't on the take (and I'm only subtly hinting that others might be).

I've been saying and will say again, it's the $$$, and that sucks.
