COLOMBIA: Escobar, Uribe and a De-Classified Pentagon Doc
This information comes from Nelson Valdes and was posted on the CubaNews list today.

"Below you will find a hyperlink to a declassified Department of Defense
document dealing with the Medellin Cartel and its agents in Colombia.

It might be of interest to look at item No. 82 on the list of people working
for Pablo Escobar in the 1980s and 1990s. You will notice that the current
president of Colombia Alvaro Uribe is mentioned as a close collaborator of
Pablo Escobar (the head of the cartel).""

1. My God! A Colombian told a bunch of us years ago, a man who knew a lot about Uribe,
long before this man moved to the States, that his dad had been connected to the drug guys, and that had been the reason for his death, yet THIS is the first time I've ever seen it admitted in print, since Uribe has been telling people for ages that his dad was killed by the FARC, and has always made it look as if he had been a really innocent victim.

Oh, this is priceless! Ha ha ha.

Thank you so much, magbana. I thank whatever inspired you to post this here, it is fantastic.

I typed it out so I could post it here. Here's that #82 from the heavily redacted report you've just posted:
82. Avaro Uribe Velez - A Colombian politician and Senator dedicated to collaboration with the Medellin cartel at high government levels. Uribe was linked to a business involved in narcotics activities in the U.S. His father was murdered in Colombia for his connection with the narcotics traffickers. Uribe has worked for the Medellin cartel and is a close personal friend of Pablo Escobar Gavaria. He has participated in Escobar’s political campaign to win the position of Assistant Parlimentarian to Jorge ((Ortega)). Uribe has been one of the politicians, from the Senate, who has attacked all forms of the extradition treaty.
(snip)
Thank you so much. Have to run, will check back later.

Cool! :woohoo: :woohoo:

(Also, Nelson Valdes is a tremendous contributor, I've seen his work before. He's excellent.)

2. There are two links that need to be repeately posted in Chavez-basher threads--
this one, and

"The Smart Way to Beat Tyrants Like Chávez," by Donald Rumsfeld, 12/1/07
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/11/30/AR2007113001800.html

The truly nefarious doings of the Bush Junta in South America--drugs/weapons trafficking, support for fascist coup plotters, massive military support for fascist torturers and murderers, Blackwater training camps, covert ops, dirty tricks, massive funding of rightwing political groups, destabilization activities against democratic governments, and planning for Oil War II--need to be stressed as the CONTEXT for Bushite and corporate news monopoly support for Uribe, and their slanders against Hugo Chavez--including that Chavez is a "tyrant" (Rumsfeld and the Bushites are the tyrants!), that he's a dirty political money launderer (ha-ha! guess who really are!), that he supports cocaine traffickers and terrorists (oh, my!), that he is a "threat to his neighbors" (well, yeah, he sure makes Uribe look bad), and, speaking of threats, while Chavez has harmed NO ONE, guess who slaughtered 1.2 million people to get their oil?

I'm mean, it's just ludicrous.

But anyway, we need to tag these DU posters who think Colombia is just swell, and never miss an opportunity to echo the Bush Junta and its lapdog press on Chavez bashing. The Bushites hate Chavez because he really was elected, and has genuine and huge popular support--among other reasons.
