Chavez says he will apply an embargo to Colombia if Santos wins the elections
He says he won't receive Santos if he's elected and that the people of Colombia has to be very aware of that (debe tenerlo claro, clarito)

1. I'll add a little translation here: Chavez warned he would completely close commerce with Colombia
if Santos is elected.

2. That means Colombia would shut off gas exports to Venezuela
The gas cut off would be pretty bad, it's used to generate electricity in the Maracaibo region. And I suppose the US would then up the aid it gives Colombia, to offset Chavez. Also, by interfering as he is in the internal politics of Colombia, I wouldn't be surprised to see Mockus cut off trade with Venezuela in retaliation, to show he's not Chavez' man. This could be really interesting.

3. yeah, this actually benefits Santos unfortunately
but Chavez is too stupid to realize that. I could see Colombians saying "jódate" to Chavez and voting for Santos to spite Hugo.

it would certainly up US aid and trade to Colombia. Probably a boost for the US/Colombia FTA as well.

4. I would vote for Mockus but....
I can see why a Colombian would get upset and vote for Santos, just to stick it down Chavez' throat. Those Colombians can be very proud people.
