This Feud with Rush.
I think the main reason president Obama is going after Rush is to show his base that he will take this ass hat on...

I could care less what republicans who wouldn't vote for president Obama if he was running through a County Club handing out 100 year old single malt Scotch.

You go there, president Obama, you go there...

1. I'm torn. He gives oxy-boy legitimacy
by feuding. I also think it increases dum-dum's numbers.

3. But the people who care about Rush are never going to vote
for Obama...

Rush is a polorizing figure and people in the middle either are turned off by his bullshit or don't care one way or another...

2. the ONLY thing that concerns me...
about poking a stick at the far right is the $$ angle. If the corporate demons (and they ARE demons) and the evangelical "rapture-ers" and the independent leaning libertarian leaning tea partiers can mobilize TOGETHER and fund campaigns... it would be the first time in memory that these groups have unified en bloc.

I will lay down money NOW... that this will be the hardest fought election in American History in 2012. It will be the most expensive, the nastiest and most "broadcast" election ever...

The trigger for the fuse is 11/10... if the Pubs pick up 30+ in the House and 5+ in the Senate and Obama stays below 50% average approval and 8%+ unemployment... all bets are off.

The cure is easy... pass "feel good" legislation now, put the focus 100% on jobs and the economy. Pass some low wage stimulus, "feel good" stuff like tax credits for lower wage earners, housing crisis intervention, beat on the CC companies... little things that will help low income people like a cap on NSF check charges, late CC payments, etc... at $5, and weve already been round and round on this forum about the usurious nature of these CC companies. I mean think about it... spend $3000 on your Visa and it takes 30 years to pay off at the min. payment. That's loan shark territory.

Hang on for dear life until 11/10... Come out of it in decent shape, down 20 seats or so in the house, 2 or 3 in the Senate and get aggressive with legislation and judicial appointments.

The economy CERTAINLY SHOULD be decent by 2012 and should be OK... Obama gets 400 EV's vs. the sacrificial lamb Pub like Pawlenty, lol.

5. If the Dems come out to vote
and the economy is heading in the right direction, the Dems could still have 240 house seats and 57 Senate seats.

6. yes...
possible. Depends on what happens the next 6 months.

57 will not stand.

Blincoln is done, so done that no one should even donate a dime to her.

North Dakota is done.

Indiana is now a toss-up.

Deleware is a toss-up.

Reid is done.

Specter may be in trouble.

Colorado is a toss-up.

win 1/2 the toss-ups and it looks like 52 looks like the number.

otoh, if the roof collapses... you're concerned for Boxer, Murray, even Feingold.

If the election were tomorrow I'd say 52.

9. It will be hard to take out Portman...
The National GOP loves Portman and they have already shovel tons of money his way.

Fisher or Brunner are both capable but if I were to look at who I think would be the better candidate against Portman, it would, reluctantly, be Fisher.

13. 2 days is a lifetime in politics. The R's have made sucha mess of
things, it is going to be extremely difficult for them to climb out of the grave they've dug.

Inn all honesty, I don't see them picking up anything at this point. They have nothing. All they are doing is complaining and stepping on the average citizen. Even out here in Nebraska, lifelong R's are giving up on their party, they realize that those who are there have done absolutely nothing for them, and their tactics have been seen as 5th grade schoolyard antics.

The nation is seeing progress from D's, and nothing from R's; they played a lousy hand, and will pay for it in the future. They are in full defense mode, and cannot handle even that. I say wait until July, things will be much easier to gauge by then, buy August, the R's will look like the Whigs...their "leadership", Boehner, McConnell, Grassley and the others look like dishrags hanging out to dry.

The GOP is a shell of it's past.

12. It's to associate the right WITH Rush.
Make Rush the head of the GOP .... if i remember correctly, he made reference to that on like day 2 or something.

I thought it was odd at the time. A lot of folks like Rush. But a WHOLE lot of people dont.

another reason why he's sounding more shrill lately. He'll have the Goomer base, but most others are sick of his claptrap...:D

16. Personally, I think that the President should not fight with talk-show hosts.
People like Limbaugh have no problem letting all of their ugly out and pretty much have nothing to lose. The President cannot allow all of his ugly out to fight them and he does have a certain decorum to maintain and has a number of things he can lose as a result of a 'fight' going wrong.

Let his supporters and other pundits to his fighting, let the President stick to running the country. JMHO.

I don't want to see my President get ugly and pwn someone, btw. I want to see him stick it in their face by being the most successful president this country has ever had, and those haters are only a distraction.

I would add though that Obama is very interested in American culture. He's very into it. Sports, everything, he knows all about it. So he's known about Rush since the early 90s like the rest of us old enough, and I don't mind him commenting from that angle.

19. Perception is sometimes more enduring than reality...
The news media is making this into a feud so therefor, since the common person who isn't immersed in politics like those who frequent political websites, will, more than likely, view this as a feud...

Edited on Mon Apr-05-10 09:47 PM by political_Dem
I'm tired of folks trying to cower whenever Rush says something derogatory against anyone that doesn't fit within his narrow-minded world view. If Obama can find a way to humiliate the man, then so be it.

Rush has been portrayed as the media as someone legitimate for too long.

However, I think that Obama must not stand alone. The Democrats and their constituency needs to stand behind him and fight back as well. I'm and tired of Dems rolling over and playing dead. Someone needs to do something to send the ruler of all things Oxy into the depths of hell for good.
