1. Kept us on the gold standard and didn't want to annex Hawai'i.
I believe he refused to endorse pro-silver William Jennings Bryan in 1896 when he became the Democratic nominee.

Cleveland also had mouth cancer, and secretly had an operation done that removed a lot of his jaw. Certainly not the first or last president to cover up health issues.

Wanted to lower the tariff, as an advocate of "free trade". Refused to grant $10,000 in seed-grain money for Texan farmers stricken by drought. Said such assistance made the government "paternal" and "weakened national character." I suppose he would be rolling over in his grave now.

He also busted a railroad strike (a la Reagan), and when the '93 Crash occurred, worked with Wall Street in preserving the gold reserves, all the while letting people starve because after all, that would "weaken the national character".

Only the mid-19th century trio of Pierce, Buchanan, and Johnson were worse Democrats than Grover the Muppet President.
