Obama's disregard for media reaches new heights at nuclear summit

World leaders arriving in Washington for President Obama's Nuclear Security Summit must have felt for a moment that they had instead been transported to Soviet-era Moscow.

They entered a capital that had become a military encampment, with camo-wearing military police in Humvees and enough Army vehicles to make it look like a May Day parade on New York Avenue, where a bicyclist was killed Monday by a National Guard truck.

In the middle of it all was Obama -- occupant of an office once informally known as "leader of the free world" -- putting on a clinic for some of the world's greatest dictators in how to circumvent a free press.

The only part of the summit, other than a post-meeting news conference, that was visible to the public was Obama's eight-minute opening statement, which ended with the words: "I'm going to ask that we take a few moments to allow the press to exit before our first session."

Dana doesn't like the security needed to protect 47 world leaders who have congregated all in one place?

Dana doesn't like it that he can't listen in on sensitive talks about nuclear security? Because, you know, we all have a right to know where all that unsecured nuclear material is sitting in third-world countries.

Because Obama's death should the "unthinkable" happen would be an awesome scoop.

It's too bad it happened, but it doesn't seem unreasonable to have heightened security. I suspect Dana is more upset at having to drive some blocks out of his way since some streets have been closed for the duration.

In any case, I can't see the problem with leaders meeting behind closed doors to discuss how to eliminate loose nukes. I'm just glad they're meeting at all!

This nothing more than months of bitterness of Obama showing that get can get around the media's filter. They're now reduced to whining about that they did get go to one of his kid's soccer game.

a platform for angry, hate-spewing, violence inciting teagabbers. I recall the gun-toters that attended teabagger rallies getting lots of coverage, which only provides a platform to further incite the crazies. And now the very media who provided the platform and glorified them as "grassroots" is whining because the level of security is too high?!!

It's perfectly legitimate for the media to establish ground rules against messages of hate and violence when showing teabagger activities. In other words, if we determine that your message is too hateful or threatening, we don't show your events. that would leave Michelle Bachmann completely off TV, but they don't do that. They continue to let this woman, Steve King and many others including teabaggers incite anti-government hate and violence.

If teabaggers can't disagree and protest without threats of violence, hate and racisism they have no business on TV, or being covered in print.
