Could Obama privatizing world peace?!
Edited on Tue Apr-13-10 08:09 PM by vaberella
I say this because I just saw Rachel's program from yesterday about the uranium we took from Chile. And her thought on us taking more from other countries to get rid of these things that can be used as bombs. My whole thought was whether we charged Chile to take it off their hands, although I'd do it for free cause well...the long run attributes make up the cost----basically priceless otherwise.

As for the title...I watched the commercials for Iron Man 2 way way way too many times on youtube.

1. Well, we will pay the Ukraine for theirs....
Edited on Tue Apr-13-10 08:17 PM by Clio the Leo
... I'd assume the same offer was made with Chile.

Which brings us to the question, is uranium from the Ukraine called "Ukranium"? (heh! Been wanting to do that joke for two days!)

Seriously .... I think this is one reason why the WH isn't making a big deal about where this stuff is going. If you saw Gibbs answer to the question yesterday (about where it was going) he was a bit evasive. I think that's partly because they dont want our enemies to start going "OBAMA IS HOARDING URANIUM!!!!" .... just think about it, if Kim Jung Il was doing this, we'd be going CRAZY. And there's the issued that it doesn't play well to be broadcasting the fact that we're buying uranium from foreign countries "in the middle of a recession." (Despite the fact that we're no longer in the middle of one.)

Of course the President can see the long term benefits of doing so, despite the short term cost.

It WOULD be nice if we could charge THEM though, lol, that would be brilliant. He's good, but he's not THAT good. :)

According to a senior administration official, under the deal announced Monday the United States will pay to secure the highly enriched uranium, which will likely be sent to Russia for conversion into low-enriched uranium for nuclear power plants. As part of the deal, the United States will also help supply Ukraine with new low-enriched fuel and a new research facility.

2. Interestingly enough Rachel says it will be taken to use as energy.
Edited on Tue Apr-13-10 08:35 PM by vaberella
We are using it for energy----when it's broken down. Basically we're paying, probably cheap prices, for another form of energy. I like that idea. We're taking basically their energy.

4. Exciting isn't it? I find that an interesting move but a very welcome move
and I'm surprised other nations aren't picking up on that. Ukraine is giving us quite a bit of uranium too...

5. Nuclear plant fuel is cheap these days partly on account of the
highly enriched stuff being mixed down and added in.
