McMahon up to $14M of self-funding in Conn. Senate race
Linda McMahon is well on her way to spending $30-50 million on the Connecticut Senate race.

The Republican former WWE CEO's campaign announced Thursday that she self-funded another $8 million in the first quarter, bringing her total out-of-pocket expenses to $14 million. She raised $37,000 and had $4.3 million cash on hand for her GOP primary bid in the race to replace retiring Sen. Chris Dodd (D-Conn.).

McMahon has previously said she could spend $30 or $50 million on the race.

The likely Democratic nominee, state Attorney General Richard Blumenthal, previously announced that he raised $1.9 million and banked $1.6 million in his first quarter as a candidate. Blumenthal took over for Dodd when Dodd announce he would not seek reelection earlier this year.

1. This may end up being a more expensive failure for the McMahons
than the XFL was.

4. I remember a guy spent $40 million of his own money...
...in a Senate race in Illinois, just in the primary. His name was Blair Hull, a businessman of some sort, and he came in a distant third, with about 10% of the vote. Each vote he got cost him about $300.

The winner of that primary was Barack Obama, who spent a LOT less.

I don't think most people like the idea of folks buying their way into Congress.

5. Statistically though, the ones who win are the ones with the Most $$...
Those who can raise the most cash (or bankroll it out-of-pocket) have virtually always won in political races. This is why most WA politicians are corrupt because with the easy money from special interests they can raise enough money to buy an election...regardless of how crappy s/he is as a rep/senator.

7. The difference is, she's not raising the cash
People who try to buy their way in using their own money usually fail.

11. Waste of money. She won't win here in Connecticut. Blumenthal is well liked by both parties and

has approval ratings of around 70% as AG and in the matchups against all opponents he is killing them.

"A Rasmussen Reports poll conducted April 7 and released today shows Blumenthal leading Simmons, 52 percent to 38 percent. A month ago, the same poll had Blumenthal leading Simmons, 58 percent to 32 percent.

Blumenthal leads Linda McMahon, the former chief executive of World Wrestling Entertainment, 55 percent to 35 percent. A month ago, his lead over McMahon was 60 percent to 31 percent.

His lead over Peter Schiff in the new poll was 58 percent to 32 percent, compared to 57 percent to 27 percent a month ago."

Also, this is not surprising here. Lots of wealth in this state. Ned Lamont spent $15 million against Lieberman in 2006.
