Buzz Blog: Florida Dem Senate candidate Kendrick Meek getting some good Beltway Buzz lately.
April 16, 2010

Another $1-mil for Kendrick Meek

Amid all the continuing Charlie Crist/Marco Rubio Buzz, we neglected to log in Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Kendrick Meek's latest fundraising haul: More than the $1-million in the last quarter, according to the campaigm, bringing his cash on hand to more than $3.7-million.

Meek has also been getting some good Beltway Buzz lately, See here.

"Democratic strategists are getting excited about Meek. I think there will be a lot more money devoted to that race," Politico's Jim VandeHei said on Morning Joe.

1. I'm surprised the polls have him within striking distance of Rubio
if it was a 1 one 1 race. But, Meek has a great ad he can run in Florida with Rubio saying something about getting rid of social security. Play that over & over in Florida.

The problem for Meek would be if Crist ran as an independent. The same poll that had Meek close to Rubio one one one had him trailing well behind Crist & Rubio in a 3 way.

4. Sadly I think Crist would just take moderates away from Meek if he ran as an independent
Chuck Todd was talking about how Meek's best shot would be with Crist in the race as an independent dividing the vote. But I don't think that's the case if the Republicans get seriously behind Rubio. This won't be like in Connecticut where the party did a half-ass job getting behind Lamont.

2. The only way Meek has a shot is if Rubio wins the primary.
Thankfully, it appears increasingly likely that Rubio will win the primary.

My greatest fear, though, is that Rubio wins both the primary and the general election. Hard to say how this race plays out.
