WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama plans a second fundraising swing in California next month on behalf of Democratic Sen. Barbara Boxer, the senator's campaign announced Tuesday.
The announcement came a day after Obama headlined a trio of fundraisers in the state to raise money for Boxer and the Democratic Party. It underscored the tough political environment facing Democratic incumbents in even the friendliest states, as well as the president's personal commitment to helping his party retain control of the House and Senate in this midterm election year.
Boxer is seeking a fourth term.
She won easily in her last re-election campaign but the economy and a foreclosure crisis that's particularly severe in California are adding up to a tough campaign for her. Three Republicans are competing to run against her.Boxer's campaign said in a press release that Obama would travel to the San Francisco Bay area in May and attend a joint fundraising event for Boxer and the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee.
