Million-Fan Anti-Obama Page Doesn't Break Facebook Rules

Our Roll Call colleague Daniel Newhauser reports that an anti-Obama Facebook page doesn't violate the site's standards. So it will stay up -- and keep annoying people who are offended at the idea of praying for a death.

Here's what the page says:

"DEAR LORD, THIS YEAR YOU TOOK MY FAVORITE ACTOR, PATRICK SWAYZIE . YOU TOOK MY FAVORITE ACTRESS, FARAH FAWCETT. YOU TOOK MY FAVORITE SINGER, MICHAEL JACKSON. I JUST WANTED TO LET YOU KNOW, MY FAVORITE PRESIDENT IS BARACK OBAMA. AMEN."

So far, more than 1 million people have clicked the button to show they like the page.

And a couple other pages have sprung up to oppose it.

This one at the moment has just over 141,000 backers and this one has just over 3,000.

"While it may be considered distasteful and objectionable to some, the Facebook page in question does not violate our policies," said Andrew Noyes, Facebook's manager of public policy communications.

6. It is disgusting, but nothing in the post above points to blatant racism.
Believe me, there were many such sentiments toward Bill Clinton.

I'm sure a great many of them are. In my previous post, I was only pointing out that nothing in the OP pointed to overt racism, just overt sociopathy.

BTW, please don't think I'm defending these assholes. I'm as repulsed by them as you are.

13. That's what happens when people "don't see" racism even when it is right in their face.
There could be a pogrom in the street and the people "who don't see anything" and "want to ignore it" will treat it as nothing special.

My husband and friends and mother are all addicted to it. I don't have time to post pics of myself that are horrendous to begin with. I don't have time to comment on people's walls or whatever. I mean, I have important stuff on DU to attend to. My Space was even worse, by the way.
