TPM Financial Wire: Financial Reform Slated for First Test Vote This Afternoon
Financial Reform Slated For First Test Vote This Afternoon

With no deal yet in place, Democrats are still forging ahead. They are planning to hold an afternoon vote to bring the bill to the floor to begin debate. As we reported this weekend, Republicans say they will stay united on blocking the measure until Sens. Chris Dodd and Richard Shelby come to a bipartisan agreement.

The Washington Post reports on the overnight developments.

1. Why do Republicans get a free pass by the media for blocking yet more legislation?
The Republicans have no argument against it other than they don't like how "partisan" it is. What has to be bipartisan about fixing Wall St? Either you are pro-Wall St and pro-endless bailouts or you are not.

2. I think this is just "old school" politics...
The GOPers know this bill is going to be popular with the general public so they want to try to take as much credit for it as possible. Their will be a grand announcement later today from Mitch McConnel and other GOPers that they have an agreement and they "forced" the Dems to concede to some "critical" provisions. The Dems will throw them a bone and let them take some credit just to get the bill going. IMO.
