Menendez says GOP just 'lit the match' on Wall St. reform
By Eric Zimmermann - 04/26/10 06:12 PM ET

It's been less than an hour since the first vote to start debate on Wall Street reform failed, and Democrats are already hammering the GOP for stalling the bill.

Democratic Senatorial Committee Chairman Bob Menendez (D-N.J.) released a statement saing Republicans "lit the match" on a firestorm by voting 'no.' (Sen. Ben Nelson (D-Neb.) joined with the Republicans.)

"Wall Street reform is political dynamite and Republicans just lit the match," Menendez said. "We now have Republicans on the record voting to giving big banks $700 billion of taxpayer funds – but opposing holding them accountable for it. November will be a choice for voters, and over the past few months, Republicans have positioned themselves on the side of the special interests."

All 41 Republicans voted 'no.'

And Nelson

2. Reid did as well....
For procedural reasons.

But this is a great opportunity to show how out of the touch the GOP is.

Our job, as a party, is to hammer that message home to the youngsters by telling them their future economic life is on the line....

7. Give 'em Hell, Harry
I like Stevenson's idea, too.

"I will make a bargain with the Republicans. If they will stop telling lies about Democrats, we will stop telling the truth about them." -- Adlai Stevenson

5. Voters should be told that the GOP is the big bank party
most of the voters think that Dems are on the side of the banks and the GOP is for the ordinary people! That's how they think.

9. So, what are you going to do about it?
Network TV ads? Democratic advocates on every talk show? Or are we just assuming voters will figure out how bad the Republicans are?
