Obama to eulogize civil rights activist Height

By JULIE PACE
Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The White House says President Barack Obama will deliver the eulogy Thursday at the funeral for civil rights leader Dorothy Height.

Height died last week at age 98 after a long illness. She was a pioneering voice of the civil rights movement whose activism stretched from the New Deal to Obama's election.

She remained active and outspoken well into her 90s and often received rousing ovations at events around Washington, where she was easily recognizable in the bright, colorful hats she almost always wore.

1. Perhaps this will change the fact that it's a man's man's world in the history of the Civil Rights
movement.

3. I hope that CSPAN or some other news outlet carries Dr. Height's funeral.

In the old days, when someone important dies, they would cut into programming and show the memorial in full. Now, it seems like a crap shoot.

I was lucky to see the memorial for the miners when someone posted the link yesterday. :(
