Consumer confidence rises to 57.9 in April - highest level since September 2008
NEW YORK - Americans' confidence in the economy rose in April to the highest level since September 2008, just as the financial crisis escalated, according to a private research group.

The upbeat reading, combined with upbeat earnings reports this week from companies ranging from Whirlpool Corp. to UPS Inc., offers more hope the economic recovery is gathering steam.

The Conference Board, a private research group based in New York, said Tuesday that its Consumer Confidence index increased to 57.9, up from a revised 52.3 in March. The April reading is the highest since September 2008's 61.4, before going into freefall. Economists surveyed by Thomson Reuters were expecting a reading of 53.5.

4. It's sad that there are a group of people that are actually rooting against
the economic recovery. It's amazing how hatred can cause people to take leave of all sense of reason.

9. Normal people are beginning to feel the recovery too. I know two people
my sister and a friend of mine who just got jobs in the last month after months of being unemployed--and they sure aren't in the top 1%. A recovery is beginning and you can turn a blind eye to it if you want. On my own situation nobody got raises last year at the hospital I work at because of the economy but this year the situation is better so we are getting raises--and I'm not some hospital big shot but an hourly employee. Finally, my 401K is 50% higher than it was at this time last year.

14. Yes, thats how the hype and over generalization works well for the super-rich. They keep us ...

fighting with each other over "the scraps." The vast majority of the wealth in this nation is parked in the upper classes, is it any wonder that more money will be spent? However, other than a few middle class jobs coming back, the lion's share of us live from paycheck to paycheck.

But hell, why worry about OTHERS when we've got ours? Why? Because you may be laid off in the next round of cuts.

"There but for the grace of God go I" is how middle class people should react to "happy news" sent down from the whores for the ruling elites in the M$M.

so you will have to come up for some other justification for your outlandish conspiracy theories.

19. No, I don't think so. Especially with regard to the Iraq invasion. Many here were
convinced that even though they didn't agree, we were JUSTIFIED to invade. Wow, you actually didn't want us to invade either Iraq and Afghanistan? If so, count me in as pleasantly surprised. :-)

22. There you go FALSELY accusing me of being unpatriotic. If anything, you're predictable.
Of course, as a military veteran, I even signed letters with fellow vets to urge Congress and President Bush to NOT INVADE Iraq. But to no avail.

Criticizing THE WRONG and IMMORAL actions of my leaders means that *I care* about my country.

Having honorably served my Country, I suggest that I love her and care about my fellow Americans as much, if not MORE than you.

25. No, you're making dogmatic conclusions. #1 Our Nation's Interest = Bill of Rights.
Edited on Tue Apr-27-10 10:41 AM by ShortnFiery
However, I don't see people in the street protesting that we are freely forfeiting our rights. We should be. I'm doing my damnedest to help make people aware of what's truly important in this nation: The American People NOT Corporations.

My observation is that you consider Corporate Rule to be in America's best interest.

Simply, we disagree what EXACTLY is in the USA's best interests.

p.s. No, not unlike the "no oil is leaking from the sunken oil rig" story of 72 hours ago, I do NOT believe ANYTHING that is published from the USA's M$M without independent confirmation. They constantly distort and lie to the American People. They serve the political ruling elites as there is little to no true investigative journalists left.

21. Who says I'm not worried about others? I gave you examples from my personal life
I know there is not equality and that the economic recovery needs to expand, but I'm not going to poo-poo every piece of good news out there as if it's only good news for the top 1%. You seem to think you are the only person who thinks of others with that kind of response.

23. I'm not making this personal. Please excuse? However, the majority of middle class
Americans are NOT doing better. If things are improving for your family, I don't begrudge you. But please don't consider that this generalizes. We should not be fighting with each other.
