OK, it's in part exactly why deregulation regarding the oil industry is as bad as deregulation of communications, banking, housing and other sectors has been wreaking havoc in our lives and livelihood.
We can thank Reagan, the Bush's and Clinton for all this dastardly lack of tasteful humanity.
But, now we face an incredible environmental disaster that literally seemed to come out of nowhere. Yes, it's based on the usual suspects, insidious greed and myopic carelessness. Those two have been busy for quite a few years, if not decades.
The Deepwater Horizon well could release 50,000 barrels a day into the ocean, with implications for marine life around the globe that are difficult to comprehend.
BP. Halliburton. Bush/Cheney. Yes, we can blame them.
But we must first STOP the bleeding as one human force if at all possible. It is of utterly complete importance that we set the blame aside for the moments until we get the disaster to be on its final stages.
But, you know as well as I know that we are kidding ourselves with this approach. AND you and I know that all the people and interests and politicians who help deregulate the oil industry will walk away unscathed and/or pay a nominal penalty for the complete damage that may seem unrecoverable for decades.
