"WE WILL NOT COWER IN FEAR"..
Four months ago, when Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab tried to blow up an airplane with chemicals hidden in his underwear, President Obama and his administration chose a deliberately low-key public response. While the authorities acted quickly and effectively behind the scenes, the president played it cool. The message was clear: no need for panic, no need to give terrorists undue attention or a symbolic victory, no need to exacerbate the situation. America is unflappable in the face of an incompetent crotch-bomber.

It was a calm, mature response ... which was widely panned by Republicans and the media. How dare the president appear calm and in control?

The attempted car-bombing in Times Square is a different kind of attack, obviously, but with terrorism back on the front page again, it's interesting to see the White House respond a little differently this time. Officials have been far more aggressive in letting reporters and the public know about the administration's productive work on this case, as it's happened.

This morning, the president himself spoke publicly about the status of the investigation, explaining that a suspect is in custody, and vowing that "justice will be done." Obama also praised both the "vigilant" civilians and the effective authorities.

What a change of pace from the cowardly worm that used to be in the White House

2. I agree, and also think and feel for why and what they stand for.
I look forward to the results, regardless of the effects, since it will be just in the long run.

4. Terrorism is all about creating fear
if the target fails to act emotionally and fearfully the terrorist fails. That's why the terrorists loved George Bush, he was so easy for them to manipulate.

6. Exactly
"You want the terrorists to win!" I kept getting told. "We HAVE to slash our liberties, we HAVE to throw trillions into war, we HAVE to give the president unprecedented authority, it's the only way to keep us safe! Or else the terrorists win!"

Looked to me like they'd already won.

Trouble is, the conservatives just aren't smart enough to "get" psychological warfare. They think that war is like i nthe movies, it's all about making dead bodies until someone is either extinct or gives up. So in their eyes, the only thing terrorists are after is a big body count. So when you have some dude set his own balls on fire and kill nobody but his balls, and the conservatives claim he failed, while they themselves use it as an excuse to push for more draconian laws... He didn't fail, he got just what he wanted. When some asshole in Iraq kills a bunch of people, and the Iraqis respond by sending in the cops to drag his ass out and throw him in a cell, he's the one who failed.

7. K&R. What a concept-a president NOT trying to terrorize us! For all
those saying Obama=Bush, they are 100% wrong.
