"Obama: I'm 'Accountable' For Civilian Deaths In Afghanistan"
Obama: I'm 'Accountable' For Civilian Deaths In Afghanistan
Eric Lach | May 12, 2010, 3:39PM

At a joint press conference with Afghan President Hamid Karzai at the White House today, President Obama said he was "ultimately accountable" for civilian deaths in Afghanistan.

Responding to a question about the state of the military conflict in Afghanistan, Obama discussed the timeline for troop withdrawals, described elements of progress, and then addressed civilian casualties.

When there is a civilian casualty, that is not just a political problem for me. I am ultimately accountable, just as General McChrystal is accountable, for somebody who's not on the battlefield who got killed. And that is something I have to carry with me... so we do not take that lightly.

No one liked it then either.

When the subject of one's opposition agrees with them, kinda takes the wind out of their sails.

6. The trouble with reposts is that they make me wonder if I'm imagining that I'd already read it
or if I had imagined reading it when I first saw it.

7. Kudos to Obama, perhaps now this will lead to a discussion among
the Democratic lawmakers on the wisdom of such expanded use.

So, maybe you could, like, SHUT IT DOWN ALREADY? That would keep you, and the citizens of this nation, from being accountable for, like, fewer deaths, you know?

12. Yes! +1000. End this Occupation NOW!
"Taking Responsibility" doesn't mean SQUAT when you don't change your inappropriate behavior and/or pay any price for your POOR JUDGEMENT.

*Taking Responsibility* President Obama means that you plan on ending these occupations ASAP.

If you don't, you have NOT truly taken responsibility for all the senseless death of innocents. :(

13. What does "accountable" mean in this context?
Edited on Thu May-13-10 09:08 AM by freddie mertz
As long as Obama's WH opposes any effort to hold war criminals from the previous administration "accountable" by law, words like these are beyond meaningless.
