Shocking Michelle
From Jonathan ALter's new tidbit as reported by Politico's Ben Smith

One last tidbit from Alter's very well-sourced new book, which reports that Sarkozy and Obama hit it off better than is sometimes thought, but also inclues this scene:

Carla Bruni…delighted in telling friends that hse shocked Michelle Obama at their first meeting. Bruni informed the first lady that the press of state business prevented her husband to making love to her as mch as she would like, though in her telling they once kept another foreign leader waiting while they finished having sex. Bruni wanted to know if, like the Sarkozys, Michelle and the president had ever kept anyone waiting that way. Michelle laughed nervously and say no.

2. Wow, was that ever inappropriate
Our first lady showed class in dismissing the question, quickly and without comment.

Good grief. I'd get the brain bleach if Laura was ever that frank about Bush and Cond--oops, I meant, Bush and herself....

30. If she did, it was probably only because she wanted the chance to say the word "Bush"
as many times as possible during the conversation.

(C'mon...you all KNOW you wanted to post it...)

22. That's part of the reason our young people are so guilt ridden.
Sex between devoted partners is nothing to be embarrassed about.

Yeah, it was too much information but WTH, They're French and it's their cultural norm.

My best friend is a French Citizen ... so I say without reservation, "Vive la France!" :loveya:

25. One need not be embarrassed about it to decide not to discuss it with near strangers
I sincerely doubt that the Obamas are the least bit embarrassed about their sex life. But they also, thank God, don't feel the need to go around talking about it. Discretion does not always equal repression.

27. Yet Michelle was UN-EMBARRASSED to confirm it with a reporter?
Edited on Fri May-14-10 09:46 PM by ShortnFiery
There was no discretion applied once she decided to confirm this private conversation with the press.

You can't have it both ways.

28. I didn't read it that way at all. Carla Bruni confided to friends what she had said to Michelle
and Michelle's response. That's how it ended up in the European press.

31. Well, Michelle is well advised to be discreet because her public is not Carla's public.
The French don't care if their leader's wife talks about sex. Americans are deeply repressed about sex. Michelle knows that. It's a political calculation, AFAIC. It was pretty damned obvious during the campaign that the Obamas had a smokin' attachment to each other physically and they didn't hide it too much. In fact, most of us LOVED it (even as Cindy McCain got more and more prune-faced when she was with John). Now she's FLOTUS and has to be circumspect. So what?

24. The only problem I have with this is that it was shared with a reporter. Just another
better idea from France, that is totally scary to Americans, along with government for the People, universal single payer healthcare, good trains, and escargot.
