I was looking through "Collapse: How Societies Choose to Fail or Succeed" (Jared Diamond ) today at the local Bookstore today. He presents a compelling thesis that shows how ecological collapse has been one of the leading causes of the collapse of civilizations. In the past, whole nations (Easter Island, Classic Maya, Bronze Age Civilization) pursued paths that eventually caused ecological collapse and the end of their civilization. In some cases, even people with far less knowledge than our own, were able to see what they were doing but continued.
I am simply wondering if this could be one of those moments. Yes, things could turn out OK, but this could also be simply a symptom of the bad choices of our Fossil Fuel Civilization. If so, it will be a bumpy ride back into the dark age.
