Obama’s campaign arm antes up for Specter
Despite President Obama’s decision not to make a late-game campaign stop for Senator Arlen Specter, the White House has made a Specter victory on Tuesday one of the top priorities for Obama’s political organization.

Organizing for America, Obama’s arm of the Democratic National Committee, had poured about two dozen staffers into Pennsylvania during the closing days of the campaign, according to Democrats familiar with the effort. The organization also has field staff working on the 12th District special election to succeed John Murtha, but making sure Specter tops primary challenger Joe Sestak is priority No. 1. The staffers, who are helping coordinate get-out-the-vote and other field operations, are heavily concentrated in the Philadelphia region, where Specter is counting on a large turnout to give him the edge in a close race.

A superior ground game can often swing a close race a few points in either direction, so OFA staffers have deployed throughout the area, staying in the houses and apartments of Democratic operatives and activists.

“By sending these field people, that’s really the most useful thing the White House could have done,” one Democrat familiar with OFA’s efforts said. “There’s a feeling of optimism, and some of the comments about the White House writing off are very overblown, because this is all about turnout.”

2. This is not the best use of resources.
This is stupid and irritating.

I am certain that Spector was promised protection against a primary challenge in exchange for Spector's party switch. Spector didn't have a choice as he was garaunteed a primary challenge from the right as a Republican.

Seriously though I just don't think the DNC should be selecting candidates or opposing primary challenges. If the party activists want to switch, then let them. If you try to bring the big party into town to exert pressure you are going to burn the party activists that will be knocking on doors, making phone calls, and getting their liberal friends to the polls later.

The result could be a big lose.

Of course if Spector is defeated in a primary he probably pulls a Lieberman and will spout about how the democratic party is 'too liberal.'

5. Specter has run like a Republican.
I didn't like it when Clinton did it in the primaries, and I don't like it now. Donning the 'big shoes' should be done in the GE, not in the primaries.

6. Kinda hard to tell whose side the president is on these days...
The side of Republicans/corporations or the side of real Democrats/progressives.

I predict a win for Sestak here regardless of the president's efforts.

7. I think he was on the side of getting that 60th vote.
Now it's up to Penn to sort it all out.

10. And once again, Obama spends his (OUR!) political capital on the losing position(s).
Specter: loss.

Lincoln: likely loss.

Have you noticed how rarely our party actually
lines up with his lousy positions and policies?
Do you think *HE* will ever notice and, more-
importantly, act on that notice?

12. Really? Obama has actually had a remarkable record of accomplishment from this congress
better than most first term presidents and also he's the most popular democat in the country--and among democrats and liberals, according to all polls, he is extremely popular. Of course he supported the incumbants including Specter who gave him a 60th vote. I don't think he hardly went all out for either Specter or Lincoln.

13. Go ahead; post "the list" -- it's been at least a week since I last saw it.
But his candidates seem to lose better than 50% of the time.

And quite honestly, if he endorsed Democrat A over Democrat B,
I'd probably vote for B. If Obama likes that candidate, odds are
I'd think their policies suck.
