Gibbs opens door to criminal probe in Gulf of Mexico oil spill
White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs on Sunday suggested that the Justice Department may explore criminal charges related to the Gulf of Mexico oil spill.

“I think the Justice Department has been down in the Gulf to look at and to gather information on this,” Gibbs said on CBS’s “Face the Nation” when asked whether a criminal probe may be opened.

He did not provide any details, and emphasized that the administration’s current priority is stopping the ongoing spill from oil giant BP’s damaged undersea well.

1. I sure hope so
Funny how corporations claim personhood when it comes to influencing elections with their money but hide behind corporate protections to avoid responsibility for their negligent actions. Massey execs need to be prosecuted as well.

8. It's because Obama himself isn't using his super powers to melt off all the oil.
After he's done that, he should ride down, lasso, and hogtie the members of the board at BP, then haul them back to the marshal for the bounty.

7. Well, if there is anything going on I'd think that's all Gibbs is really allowed to say.
White House policy is not to comment on any open/ongoing investigations.

10. Pretty tame language, but I do hope the reality is a lot more severe.
I'm afraid what's really going on is a lot of people are calculating just how politically useful BP execs are to them right now, and that will determine their fate more than any law or justice system will.

13. Just be warned that if this wasn't done, than it would be an outcry.....
but since it will be done, something else that is not being done will be the outcry instead.
