Carville Is Raging Against Obama's Response To The Oil Spill
I saw part of this on Good Morning America today. James is pissed. I was genuinely surprised how angry he seemed to be.

I sincerely hate having to ask, but since Obama's victory put such a huge dent in his status as THE Dem strategist, is rage truly righteous, or is he seizing an opportunity to take a stealth dump on the progressive end of the party and troll for a new job?

45. Actually, he doesn't. He lives here:

On the Virginia side of the Potomac in Old Town Alexandria sits the waterside home of political consultants James “Ragin’ Cajun” Carville and Mary ”I’m Conservative” Matalin.

Known for their diametrically opposing political views, the couple has been at the center of US Politics for years and they had a significant impact on the 2004 Republican and Democratic presidential campaigns. Though a quick look at the interior of their home reveals who always wins the arguments at home.

The interior decorating of this house is so scary to us! It’s a mishmash of pinks and reds and looks like the home of a fairy princess, not a true blood Cajun! The exterior though is a classic inspired colonial townhome and it is sitting on a beautiful waterfront lot facing towards downtown DC. The latest Alexandria property appraisal puts the homes value at $4.1 million.

along with the fascist push to give corporations MORE control of our government and the people LESS say about regulating those corporations.

114. Anger is fine (although best combined with action)...
but in Carville's case, it seems aimed at the wrong person. And I have to wonder, if he had something constructive to offer - why not do it privately? Or, even better, why isn't he out there helping with a cleanup - he has the time and the resources...

93. Perhaps you missed it, because there wasn't any? After all,
According to Robert Parry, Carville is the guy who gave J Kerry a lot of erroneous facts, such that John Kerry decided to concede within like fifteen hours of the supposed vote going against him in 2004.

Carville is a dirty and dangerous rat bastard. He is right on the oil spill issue, but that doesn't make him any less of a rat bastard.

'Political Stupidity': Democrat James Carville Slams Obama's Response to BP Oil Spill
Democratic Strategist Said White House Should've Acted Quickly: 'We're About to Die Down Here'

The White House is seemingly making an increased show of pressuring BP, but President Obama is facing political heat from within his own party for what some say has been a lackluster response to the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
Democratic strategist blasts White House over rig spill reaction.

More Photos

The "political stupidity is unbelievable," Democratic strategist James Carville said on "Good Morning America" today. "The president doesn't get down here in the middle of this. ... I have no idea of why they didn't seize this thing. I have no idea of why their attitude was so hands off here."

................

But Carville said the Obama administration's response to the BP oil spill has been "lackadaisical," and that rather than place the blame on the previous administration, it should've done more to deal with BP and "inept bureaucrats," which would've in turn helped boost Obama's approval ratings.

"The president of the United States could've come down here, he could've been involved with the families of these 11 people" who died on the offshore rig, Carville said. "He could've demanded a plan in anticipation of this."

"It just looks like he's not involved in this," an angry Carville said on "GMA." "Man, you got to get down here and take control of this, put somebody in charge of this thing and get this moving. We're about to die down here."

Carville added that the Obama administration needs to launch a federal investigation into the incident that has become a major environmental disaster and a headache for the federal government.

11. BS. Period.
If the President put on gear and took a sub down there, he could not personally plug that hole up. This incessant ranting about unresponsiveness is not helpful to getting anything done. I do believe that feasible effort is being made to do something. Sometimes problem-solving takes a bit of time. What is Carville doing to help? Certainly he has better ways he can channel his need to do something besides shooting his mouth off.

18. A real leader would have ordered tankers into the area the very first week...
...made sure the booms were getting there (thousands of feet STILL have not arrived), held face-to-face talks with the best scientists and oil people there on the ground in LA, FIRED Salazar, met with families, listened to fisherman about what they need, acted on warnings from environmental groups about dispersants since the beginning - and on and on and on.

Instead, he's been running around the country giving political speeches, hosting dinners, talking sports and attending fundraisers.

Not even close to leadership.

a lot of empty unused tankers sitting around ready to go there?

I guess you missed that he already met with fishermen, met with local officials, gotten daily updates.

Gee, you think he should just give up being President and do only what you want him to do, just that one thing?

I have little tolerance for people that want to dictate what the President of 300+ million Americans wants him to do, just to please THEM!

Why are there not a multitude of tankers from throughout the WORLD in the Gulf presently sucking up the oil that has already spilled? If we had TANKERS IN PLACE, we may prevent some of the marshes and wild life refuges from being affected. :grr: :nuke: :grr:

James does and did a lot to support Obama as a nominee. Much more than I am sure some on this site did. This is his home and he is angry and he is right. This isn't just political. as he said "We are dying" and that makes a big difference. He said "Blame this on the Bush Admin" but GET SOMETHING DONE. and he even offered suggestions as to what.

If Carville could put down his Sazerac for a second and stop listening to his crooked-mouthed wife, he might realize that the Coast Guard is down there and was down there the morning after the explosion happened.

What exactly does Carville want Obama to do besides what he has been doing? Grab a Saints bucket and start plucking it in the swamps to get the oil?

What is Carville doing besides spending hours shaving his fucking head?

the oil off of the gulf? That way it they have a fighting chance of preventing it seeping into the wildlife refuges and marshes that haven't been hit.

IMO, it's because BP is still in charge and doesn't want to share it's oil with companies who have TANKERS that could help significantly.

My husband's entire extended family hails from the New Orleans area.

I stand with James Carville.

82. I lived in New Orleans for 6 years
Edited on Wed May-26-10 07:22 PM by zulchzulu
First Metairie, then St. Charles Ave., then the Quarter... I know a wee bit about Nawlins.

As for Carville, what the phuc is Obama supposed to do? I never trusted Carville since he whispered in his wife's ear that Kerry was going to challenge the Ohio results and his skanky phucking wife told the news to OUR OPPOSITION.

Carville is an ass. Suddenly he's a goddamn deep water oil drilling expert? He mentioned that the Coast Guard needs to be there. Is that the same goddamn Coast Guard that was there the MORNING AFTER THE EXPLOSION? Or is he thinking about some other Coast Guard we humans don't know about.

I understand the frustration... but why not hammer on BP and the Repigs that want to keep the cap low on paying people back?

Maybe Carville hasn't figured that out yet. After all, his skanky wife is probably yelling at him right now to put his feet off the expensive antiques.

90. With respect, you seem to have "a case of the a**" against Carville.
Perhaps because he didn't support your candidate of choice at first?

We strongly disagree.

My husband was born and raised in New Orleans through college. He's third generation and his parents still live there as well as his three brothers and sisters.

Love for New Orleans and the Gulf Coast area (NOT a political ideology) is in their blood.

We agree with James Carville: President Obama has NOT done enough.

There are some NUTJOBS here who ACTUALLY BELIEVE that his anger isn't reallllly stemming from the DEVASTATION and DESTRUCTION of the the Gulf and Gulf Coast ecosystems, compounded by the 'less than energetic' response by the Obama Administration, that it's reallllly all about a lingering HARD-ON from the 2008 PRIMARIES???

Why, that's even DUMBER than 'Democrats?' who would consider Sarah Palin a reasonable and acceptable 'replacement candidate' after Hillary Clinton!

integrity and believability? The guy (and his wife) are publicity whores of the biggest kind. I doubt he cares about the Gulf Coast other then being on tv. 67. A lot of rage and bluster and not many ideas
Just like most of the screamers and talking heads.

"Get the coast guard out there!"
They're already there.

"Get some researchers out there!"
They're there too. Even the homophobic ones.

"Commandeer oil tankers!"
Why?

"I heard they cleaned up other oil spills!"
Yup, took some time, and they probably had to wait till the oil had stopped "spilling" before they made any headway with the "cleaning".

"The people need help!"
Thanks for the update Captain Obvious.

Basically, people like Carville are pissed that Obama hasn't been doing theatrical photo-ops where he dives off the deck of a boat and single-handedly pulls an oil-slicked pelican out of the water so that he can save its life by performing emergency surgery using nothing but his pen knife, a credit card, and some dental floss left over from lunch.

Just asking.

Carville is somebody who has been close enough to the Presidency that he should know far better than most people EXACTLY what the powers of the Presidency are as well as the limitations. If he has not yet specified EXACTLY what this President should be doing differently then he is simply using his media access to blow smoke and hot air and may as well be considered a Teabagger.

Carville is disturbed, understandably. He can rant all he wants. Does he know for a fact that the administration has not been in contact with Woods Hole and/or Scripps and/or skimmers and/or whomever? I very much doubt that Carville is privy to all that is going on behind the scenes.

Edited on Wed May-26-10 08:54 PM by moondust
Ixtoc was in 1979 and provided plenty of warning that contingency planning was necessary. Why didn't Reagan do that contingency planning over the course of his EIGHT YEARS in office? Or two Bushes (TWELVE YEARS total)? Or, get this...James' buddy President Clinton in his EIGHT YEARS in office?

Why didn't James Carville himself whisper that in the ear of President Clinton?

See Rachel's show of 05/26/10 for more on Ixtoc.

Carville wore out his welcome when he tattle-tailed the Democratic Ohio strategy on Election night in 2004 with his crooked-faced Repig wife who was WORKING FOR BUSH-CHENEY.

Why anyone would take this TRAITOR seriously is beyond my comprehension. Carville was in fact a major reason why Ohio went to Bush and hence the Election.
