How Obama’s focused, hands-on pursuit of Osama Bin Laden paid off
"Obama's critics have said that he is a weak leader in general and in particular does not understand what must be done to combat terrorism. "They are very much giving up that center of attention and focus that's required," said former Vice President Dick Cheney in March 2009, in a typical remark. Yet what emerges from the details of Bin Laden's killing (offered, like the heroic accounts of the Bush years, entirely by officials who work for the sitting president) is that from early in his administration Obama was focused on killing Osama Bin Laden and that he was involved in the process throughout."

1. That's great. But how has Obama's "focus" on Afghanistan paid off for the USA?
He's still getting our people needlessly killed there, apparently to prove he's a "tough guy".

2. I'm hoping, as a purely hypothetical scenario, that Obama realized
early on, before the election, even, that there is no end game for Afghanistan. There is absolutely nothing, no benchmarks, no achievable objectives, to be found in pursuing that war. The only people who can fix Afghanistan are the Afghans.

Therefore, the one thing that we can pin the label of 'success' on is the capture or killing of Bin Laden. Now we can look at the war lords and say "Our job here is done - you didn't think we'd stay here forever, did you?"

Since the republicans are always crying about our 'nation building' it will be hard for them to argue to say in Afghanistan if our only achievable goal there has been accomplished.

I'm not counting on it, but it's nice to have a clear opportunity again.

3. Awesome!!!
These are facts and coupled with the fact that he increased our presence there so dramatically makes it irrefutable that it was his policies that resulted in this victory.

Posting on the RW blogosphere this morning is like shooting fish in a barrel. Love it. So proud of our President!
