BREAKING-WH will NOT release photo of bin Laden (from MSNBC)
Edited on Wed May-04-11 12:38 PM by jenmito
Good. It would be used for propaganda purposes. Maybe they can show the families of 9/11 victims who want to see it privately.

1. "The risks of release outweigh the benefits"
In an interview with Steve Kroft for this Sunday's 60 Minutes, President Obama says he won't release post-mortem images of Osama Bin Laden taken to prove his death.

Video of the comments will appear on the CBS "Evening News" on Wednesday.

Republican House Intelligence Committee Chairman Mike Rogers said Wednesday that the Obama administration should not release the gruesome postmortem images, saying it could complicate the job for American troops overseas.

"The risks of release outweigh the benefits," he said. "Conspiracy theorists around the world will just claim the photos are doctored anyway, and there is a real risk that releasing the photos will only serve to inflame public opinion in the Middle East."

"Imagine how the American people would react if Al Qaida killed one of our troops or military leaders, and put photos of the body on the internet," he continued. "Osama bin Laden is not a trophy - he is dead and let's now focus on continuing the fight until Al Qaida has been eliminated."

35. Exactly...
and Sarah Palin tweeted (of course) that the pics should've been released. But if he DID release them, I'm sure she would've tweeted that we shouldn't have. :eyes:

Fighting terrorism with terrorism. When will we learn that does not work and is fact is what started this whole terrorism thingy in the first place.

Maybe if we stopped supplying the world with killing machines, toppling democratically elected leaders and meddling in the internal affairs of of other countries, the violence would stop.

2. Good. The crazies will never be convinced, anyway.
If Osama is really alive, then let him make a new video holding that day's newspaper to prove it, or specifically referencing events happening after May 1, 2011. Don't hold your breath.

13. I'm not sure about this
Yes, tin-foil hat types will spin no matter what, but there's a lot of distrust of the U.S. in the Arab and Muslim worlds and releasing the photos and/or video tape of his burial would at least make our claims visually credible.

14. Agree or not...
you have to note that killing a high ranking terrorist leader in the field is not in line with American doctrine. If he is dead, this was a grab that went wrong (chopper crash) and necessitated the killing, if he is alive he is being rendered as we speak. However this went down, we could NEVER admit to having him in custody, the retaliations that would provoke are untold.

People who do not believe OBL was killed would just claim it was photoshopped anyway. I don't think they should release the sea burial video either.

No doubt they would have splashed them on the pages of the crappy newspapers and all over my TV. No thanks.

29. YAY! I was saying the same thing (not to release) earlier today.
This would only make things worse if it got released...so finally something that WH and i agree on.
Let the MSM get angry at him and the conspiracies enrage...the consequences of releasing are much worse.
Obama continues to win back my trust for my vote in 2012.

Who really want to see the pictures of a man shot in the face... Shown on evening news when the kiddies are watching... Most people could not handle the gruesome pictures... I'm glad they didn't cave!

36. Reuters photos are from Pakistani officials
not of Bin laden, but of his son and two lackeys.

Frankly anyone who is yearning to see photos of freshly killed men shot in the head should have their heads examined.

37. I find it morbidly interesting, but...
..to be honest, I'd prefer if the pictures hadn't been released. I've looked at them and would do the same if an Osama picture emerged, yet I still would rather they hadn't been made public. However, I don't think there's any shame in viewing these once they're out there..it's historic in its way, and I find it less disturbing, less shocking than I did watching the news as 9/11 itself unfolded. Far less, not even in the same ballpark.

That's why all the mosque decorations are geometric.
