2. wouldn't matter
he showed his long form birth certificate...and it didn't stop the conspiracy theories.

what makes you think showing a photo of a dead terrorist would stop them?

else they could conjure up. Fuck em.

12. Respectfully, there are two groups here: skeptics and kooks.
The former could be assuaged by the release and would make the latter even more irrelevant.

16. There are actually 4 groups here
1. Those who believe everything the government tells them because it's the government.
2. Those who believe everything the government tells them so long as their party controls the government.
3. Those who don't believe everything the government tells them because they remember the times the government lied in the past
4. Those who don't believe the government ever because they think that government lies by its very nature.

22. add two more
5. Those who don't believe anything that the voices in their head didn't say. Members of that group come in all stripes.

6. Those who believe what can be proven by facts i.e the earth goes round the sun, Bin Laden is dead, Santa is not real, Bush didn't plan 9/11 etc.

25. Right about the number, wrong about the groups
Edited on Wed May-04-11 06:48 PM by stevenleser
1. Those who believe everything the government tells them because it's the government. (Less than .001% of DU'ers)
2. Those who believe everything the government tells them so long as their party controls the government. (Less than 1% of DUers)
3. Those who believe what the government says when it is backed up by facts. (85% of DUers including most Obama supporters)
4. Those who don't believe anything the government tells them because they like to feel like they are special and have some sort of special insight, even though they don't. (13.009% of DUers)

32. I think there are five or six groups here, those like me
5) Those who take the time to analyze each issue and the credibility of the reporters and make independent decisions based upon the available evidence, concluding sometimes that it is impossible to decide.

6) Those who, like me, tend NOT to believe certain reporters, but tend to believe the good will and track record of people like me who want to serve the truth and work for our government more than reporters who have an agenda. The government, after all, is people like you and me, unlike some guy on Fox News making millions spiking conspiracy theories with a scintilla of evidence or fact to go with their ego.

3. Agree. Conspiracy theorists don't deal in facts/proof. They'd make up some reason to not
believe it's a real picture. Also, the pic would've been put up on all extremist websites, used to foment hatred against us, to recruit more extremists, etc.

11. Disagree.
It would give the country closure. And the radical Islamists are going to hate us regardless of whether we release the photos or not. "We might get them angry if we release the photos" doesn't strike me as a good enough reason to deny the country closure.

The administration seems to be split on this.

14. An FOIA request will probably force eventual release but I
think the decision not to release now is a good and safer move. If pictures are eventually released due to an FOIA request (likely to be successful because digital pictures were recorded and stored on government property) they won't have the same explosive impact they could now.

Edited on Wed May-04-11 05:23 PM by FrenchieCat
But I think doing the opposite from what Bush did in reference to the Hussein Brothers
is probably a better choice. I remember seeing those photographs,
and simply shaking my head at the time.

Plus, if Fox wants it, then it's probably a good call for them
not to get them.

There's always Wikileaks.....
Guess that why it's there.

Now there will be a gallery of nuts to claim OBL's not dead, and that this proves it.

Like the BC, he'll have to release it eventually and then there will have been time to photoshop or whatever. In fact there's time now. Oh well, maybe it makes no difference. Nutcases will be nutcases no matter what happens.

Just thinking that strategy might be on the minds of some.. or at least wait a few months and milk this for all it's worth.

24. Agree wholeheartedly

A good decision on his part. Like he said, either way, the conspiracy theories will come out.

I do think, however, that the families and friends of 9/11 victims should have the opportunity to view them privately, if they
wish to.
