"How many Muslims does a black guy have to kill before the crackers climb down off his ass?"
Maher: Obama is ‘one black ninja gangster president’

Posted on 05.7.11

Categories: Featured, Political Satire/Parody

Comedian Bill Maher devoted a segment of Friday’s episode of “Real Time” to Republican-bashing. More specifically, he pointed out that Republicans have proven themselves to be neither fiscally conservative nor strong on defense, evidenced by the fact that they “lost a ten-year game of hide and seek with bin Laden.” President Barack Obama, Maher said, has proven himself to be “one efficient, steely-nerved, multitasking, black ninja gangster president,” so why can’t he catch a break from the Republicans?

“How many Muslims does a black guy have to kill in one weekend before the crackers climb down off his ass?” Maher asked.

5. No kidding. But they're stuck. They have to carry on like this to PRETEND toward
any self-respect at all.

They know, deep-down, that their guy DIDN'T bag the big game. Lost a LONG game of "hide and seek", indeed. Then there's a change of management and the NEW management GETS the big game. They have to find some sort of justification for their failed part in it. How it somehow, in some impossible way, was not a failure. Unfortunately, I'm sure there will be some among the dumbed-down who'll buy it. But that will be because they, too, are desperate for some sort of justification for their staunch support of the guy who loudly and spectacularly failed.

It's all about face-saving at this point.

9. I know Bill means well, but I hate the "gangster" reference. I saw it used
in another article as an attack on the president, and from the keeper of all things "liberal" no less. Great observation. I just wish we could dispense with the "gangsta" shit.

10. Agreed
I'm tired of "gangsta" and "pimp" labels being slapped on black men like it's a good thing.

I know he's joking and this sort of thing is far too common. It lauds a negative stereotype and flirts with racism.

12. I got the impression he was using it not in terms you're thinking
I watched the show this morning and I think he was trying to get folks who wouldn't see him as anything other than what they think all black men are, gangsta's. It was, IMO, sort of a stab at the Repubs. Maybe I read it wrong when I watched this morning.

13. I still don't like the reference with regard to the first AA president.
They've been making it since the campaign. Some used it in reference to his hometown of Chicago, and its history of gang activity, and some used it as a racial jab. Either way, I think it denotes a sign of disrespect. I completely understand it coming from the GOP, but when it's used, even playfully, by the left, I cringe. But that's just my personal opinion.

16. I agree with your take - this was a compliment to his badass-ness
It's too bad that Repubs/Teabaggers cling to anything to denigrate, but people have to make the distinction. And it was very clear that Bill was using it in the context that would chap the Repubs'/'Baggers' asses the most.

15. I'm not a big fan of Maher, but I'd think he would know better. Am I too sensitive?
I mean, is it too much to ask that the first black president of the Harvard Law Review, and currently the USA not be referred to, by those on the left, as "gangsta"?

As I said, I know Bill didn't mean it maliciously, but another leftist wrote an article basically calling Bin Laden's killing "a hit", and the term gangster was used in referring to our POTUS.

19. I agree, it should have been obvious to him
The only possible excuse is that he was directing at the right, to whom that might be a scary thing. But he could have left that term out. Would he have applied it to a white President? Say Hillary had done the same thing as President. No way. Or DK or Edwards or anyone else.

I think that's been my biggest pet peeves about this whole OBL killing. Osama didn't represent Muslims any more than Fred Phelps represents Christians

23. Killing Muslims is a joke to Maher?
Maybe Maher should stop worrying about what the Republicans think of Obama and spend more time thinking about the killing of innocent people on the other side of the world by a President he supports. It's not so funny. I doubt Obama is killing Muslims to get the support of Republicans, but whatever his reason he would stop. End the drone strikes. End the wars.
