Epic Race Forming in Virginia

A new Washington Post poll in Virginia finds George Allen (R) and Tim Kaine (D) are locked in a dead heat, 46% to 46%, "suggesting that the U.S. Senate race between the Virginia titans may live up to its billing as one of the most competitive contests in the nation."

"Kaine and Allen begin the Senate matchup -- which experts say could easily top $30 million -- with similarly deep statewide experience, proven fundraising ability and broad name recognition. Both men's tenure in office is remembered fondly by a majority of Virginians -- 58% of voters approve of the way Kaine handled his job as governor, while 55% approve of Allen's performance as senator."

2. George Allen...or Tim Kaine?
The worst DNC chair we'd had since the nomination of McGovern...or Senator Macaca?

I feel so sorry for the people of Virginia.

4. Tim Allen would be better than either of these two handjobs...
I swear -

Guy calls a kid a racial slur and it's seen on national TV, and yet people remember him "fondly".

18. If you don't mind, Tim Kaine was my governor, and I liked him just fine.
George Allen is a racist shitstain who tries to hide behind a bullshit "aww shucks" smile and a fake shit-kicker persona.

3. So Far, Allen is proving to be too liberal for the tea party folk here.
It's too soon to tell, But I will be working For Tim Kaine. I'm not going to Judge Kaine for his work as the head of the DNC, I'll Look at his record as Governor. I suspect most people here in this state will too.

Kaine never had a Macaca moment -- he was well respected as governor.

10. Who else would you suggest?
Not trying to play gotcha or being disingenuous, but who else? It seems like this is a stat that likes the dems to be moderate -- It really seems to be a swing state.

8. Some of my colleagues keep trying to convince me to move from MD to VA
Edited on Sun May-08-11 09:18 PM by Liberal_Stalwart71
"It's so nice," they say!

Now, why would I do that? Why would I leave from one of the bluest states to Macaca-Land? No, thanks! I don't want to live that life surrounded by a bunch of backwards folks who can't get over the fact that the South lost the Civil War and want to celebrate Confederate Month. No, way. I'm keeping my black ass right in here in D.C./MD.

12. Macaca was only the tip of the iceberg. George Allen has
a history of racial prejudice dating back to his high school days in Southern Calif. when he kept a baseball bat in his car inscribed with the word "n_ _ _ _ r-knocker." He was once suspended from school for defacing the campus with racist graffiti. I was a classmate and remember this shit very well - as do many others who talked to the media about it when he was contemplating a Presidential run back in 2006. Months before the Macaca incident, The New Republic published a cover story called "Pin Prick" documenting Allen's racism and decades-long love affair with the Confederacy. Allen even named his only son Forrest, after early Ku Klux Klan leader Nathan Forrest. He's a piece of work, and it's almost impossible for me to believe that the people of Virginia have such short memories and would return this asshole to the US Senate.

13. The sad thing is, this type of background will be seen as a plus by many Virginia Republicans.
Sad but true.

This will be enough to bury him, I should think. Time to do a search on Allen for some old news scoops....

17. George Allen may lose his own primary to a tea bagger
For some reason, they are supporting someone else. My guess is because he's been a Washington insider for years.
