2. We hadn't even thought about Bill Clinton in spring 1991

Poppy Bush was a "Shoo in" after GW 1. The 2012 election is going to be determined by 1, the economy, and 2, if the Repubs can come up with a serious challenger. OBL will be a distant memory for most voters in November 2012

3. The spring of 1991?
Hell, in the spring of 1992, Clinton was in THIRD place in the polls.

We have no idea what's going to happen next month, let alone next year.

4. Poppy Bush knew by mid-91 that he'd be impeached if he stayed in office past 1992
The BCCI report was slated to come out in Dec1992, and hearings held by a Dem senate would assure that the American public would be horrified at what Poppy Bush and his cronies were up to in the nurturing and spreading of global terrorism at so many levels....including the treason, the armsdealing, the moneylaundering, and the drugrunning.

So, Poppy and his close pal Jackson Stephens (brought BCCI bank into this country) made sure he'd never win and that the successor could be depended upon to keep BCCI matters shelved and on the downlow.

Worked, too.

5. You have way too much faith in that "Dem senate"
Given what we have seen during and after the bushco era, they would have whitewashed it.

6. It wasn't that bad yet. Dems were still in some fighting shape at the time.

Remember, the reason that we were even able to KNOW about the PDB from Aug2001 where we learned that Bush was warned ahead of the Sept11 attacks, is because Kerry kept taking Bush1 to court for documents that Bush1 WH kept refusing to release to BCCI investigative committee. Fortunately, the court ruled for those disclosures more than they have lately.

The Dem Senate was MUCH stronger in the early 90s. They lost ALOT of momentum in the 90s because Bill Clinton became the last word on all Dem policy decisions and we now know he was invested in protecting Jackson Stephens and Poppy Bush, and pushed the whole turning the page mentality on the rest of the party.

7. What really is remarkable is how competitive Obama has been in VA regardless of overall situation...
He led the Republicans even before the bin Laden news, though by a margin similar to what he beat McCain by in 2008.

Which tells me he's in good shape because, regardless of how up and down his overall poll numbers are, he still remains extremely competitive in Virginia and certainly the favorite to win that state.

IF Obama wins Virginia, the Republicans have no path to victory through the electoral college.
