Cause 6pm varies...

10. It's local, so as the sun hits 6PM at that latitude the rapture occurs.

21. Quite right, stupid teacher stuck longitude is long in my head.
But it's longer to circle around the planet than to go from north to south right?

22. I don't know any good mnemonic.
If you're standing on the Equator, then going all the way around the world by traveling east or west (crossing lines of longitude) would be longer than going to one of the poles (crossing lines of latitude). That comparison doesn't work for me, though -- you could also go all the way around the world by going to the North Pole, continuing on south to the South Pole, then north again to your starting point. The distance would be virtually the same.

I hope this helps you prepare for the next Rapture!

13. Here's my haiku
Edited on Sat May-21-11 07:06 AM by iwillalwayswonderwhy
Sold my belongings,
Where is my ride to the sky?
Where do I go now?

Get off of my cloud,
It is reserved for the pure,
Hey! Where'd my cloud go?

I am not insane,
But I am too gullible,
Now, what to believe?

Edited to add: I suppose this is really day after haiku. Perhaps I wrote this prematurely.

15. It's still not 6 pm where I am, so I suppose that there could be an
outside possibility. Far outside, so far as I am concerned. No one seems to have been Raptured in earlier time zones.

Here's an interesting website on cults: http://www.cultwatch.com/ This group has come to the conclusion that Camping's group IS a cult. In case anyone had doubts.

If by some totally bizarre circumstance, I did end up among The Elect (I am an agnostic, so the likelihood is nil but mistakes can be made, after all), here's one lady I wouldn't mind being Raptured with. But she doesn't believe that she'll be Raptured either.

"So it turns out that the Rapture is due at six o'clock this evening, which means that, according to Family Radio, there's a group of people favoured by God and known as the "elect" who will get whisked up to heaven to eat ambrosia with St Peter and find out what Jesus wrote in the sand. It also turns out that if you're "Roman Catholic, Baptist, Reformed, Presbyterian, Seventh-Day Adventist, Jehovah's Witness, Mormon, etc" then you can expect to remain with your feet solidly on this earth to suffer hellfire and brimstone until God destroys creation five months later. I, an Episcopal priest, am in the "etc"; I'm going to be left behind. I am an Et Ceteran and don't believe that Judgment Day is coming on 21 May – but I am curious. I went Googling.

I initially thought my urban apartment would be an ideal post-Rapture location, close to a grocery store that could be rampaged – since the website predicted mass chaos, violence and destruction – and across the street from a river, where I could fish if only I had a fishing pole. I also live on one of the higher floors, which makes invasion less likely.

19. Had a customer ask me for raincoats. Needed 10 for rapture/survival kit...
They were too expensive. He asked if there were cheaper. I said no.

Would you give a shit about the cost of raincoats at the end of the world?
