Why are DEMS Offering Concessions when GOP admits they will Raise Debt Ceiling Regardless?
Was reading that the GOP allayed fears of the wall street by telling them directly not to worry because they would be raising the debt ceiling no matter what. Geitner even repeated this in his conversations. So remind me again why is Biden, and the rest of the democrats looking to cut a deal with the republicans so as to "get permission" from the GOP to raise the debt ceiling? Why are the even negotiating anything at all where they should be actually demanding concessions from the GOP and not giving in to gop at all? Having the thought of medicare/aid on the table at all is embarrassing, let alone any other social issue. Why not demand Elizabeth Warren be appointed (without recess), why not demand the oil subsidies end, etc. Democrats are in a position to demand not beg!

So then i wonder, are democrats really serious at all about working for the people or just looking for excuses to agree with republicans.

PLease feel free to correct me because maybe i am not understanding the issue here.

2. They give concessions on those conservative ideas they agree with
Theres not a spit worth of difference between what passes for a Democrat on Capitol Hill and what passes for a mainstream conservative on Main Street.

3. Maybe because the two parties represent two sides of the same coin?
I think we often confuse "compromise" with "complicity" here on DU.

6. When did Boehner announce this? Quote? Also, name the "concessions" Dems are allegedly offering.

I would like credible sources for any information you proffer, not empty blaming rhetoric.

I am with you, lets see some quotes, and a list of what they are "supposed" to be giving away! It's so easy to make accusations, but we should all demand "FACTS" to back up any accusations that are being made in any post!

9. Where did the Democrats gain all this pretend leverage?
If they made all those demands you describe, why would the GOP be under any obligation to fold?

The GOP has no problem blackmailing the rest of the country and holding the debt ceiling hostage, that it is the difference.

13. I could not agree more
Republicans will vote for raising the debt ceiling because they don't want to see their party disintegrate more than it already is. It always scares when republicans make demands, like McConnell the chinless wonder has, because they have the misguided belief that they have to give republicans something big even though public opinion is purely on the side of Democrats.
