Boehner Offers First Reaction To GOP’s NY-26 Defeat

Boehner Offers First Reaction To GOP’s NY-26 Defeat

Brian Beutler

<...>

In his first public response to Tuesday's defeat, House Speaker John Boehner deviated slightly from that script.

"Special elections are just that: they're special. And when you look at what happened in this election, you had a third-party candidate who spent nearly $3 million attacking the Republican candidate. And I could be somewhat critical of how the campaign was run. But the fact is we didn't win. And the small part of the reason we didn't clearly had to do with Medicare.

Emphasis added.

He's downplaying these other factors. But it's interesting to see him admit the GOP's position on Medicare played any role at all, and to watch him gently push Corwin under the bus. Having acknowledged that there's at least some truth to the conventional wisdom, though, Boehner went on to defend the GOP's position and attack Democrats for not putting out a comprehensive Medicare plan of their own that's projected to reduce the federal commitment to Medicare spending and stave off national bankruptcy.

This should make those 40 Senators feel comfortable. LOL!

1. Please, stay delusional
It will make it all the easier to take back the House in 2012.

Keep pretending people like that stupid plan to kill Medicare.

3. I would tell the tan man to enjoy his time. I think when reelection comes back he'll be replaced.
So drink up and date secretly your time is running out tan man. You will lose reelection.

8. You don't have a clue!
Unfortunately, I live in Mr. Boehner's 8th Ohio congressional district. This district is one of the most heavily Republican areas in Ohio. It would take an act of God for him to lose here. Do some research and you'll find that he replaced Donald "Buzz Luken. He had sex with an underage girl and the Republicans still held this seat. He may not be Speaker after the next election, but I don't see him losing this district. Hell, the DNC won't spend any money in this district on a Democratic candidate because they know what a lost cause it is. THAT, should tell you what you need to know.

6. don't do what Boehner says
don't put out a dem version of "entitlement reform".

The dems should make Pelosi's line their line: "We have a plan. It's called Medicare."

7. Hey Boehner, how about all the money the GOP poured into
the district - one that was considered safe?? Who were you afraid of?

10. He is correct that they would've won in a two person race, however...
Like the Hawaii 1st district special election last year, you have a district that's has about a 2-1 partisan slant. That means you should be able to split your vote and still pull off a marginal win. When you lose such a race, it's still an indicator of your party preforming poorly, just as the Hawaii 1st was an indicator last year.
