Obama promises for 2012
Edited on Sat May-28-11 09:31 PM by Dawgs
Any chance he's considering any, some, or many of these ideas?

By the time I start my next term I will..
End the wars.
Raise the taxes for rich.
Update my stance on gay marriage to show my support for it.

And, if you give me a Democratic Congress, I will work to..
Pass comprehensive immigration reform.
Strengthen Medicare and Social Security.
Change the tax code so that ALL companies pay their fair share of taxes.
Eliminate unfair hiring practices by giving incentives for companies to hire in America.
Work to make trade fair for Americans and American companies.
Take another look at the Public Option.

Add more if you wish.

1. Is this going to be CC: Santa Claus, too? Because if the Senate flips to GOP as Charlie Cook said

... it very well might, all the whining in the world won't help.

As it is, President Obama is being obstructed on getting a budget passed - and anything else of any substance, for that matter - by the Teabagger House. Senate Republicans just blocked any chance of President Obama getting Elizabeth Warren in on a recess appointment.

What makes you think it'll be smooth sailing in 2012? It will be an election year that will be even more full of bullshit by Republicans and their friends (see Bill Clinton's latest DINO antics which gave aid and comfort to the enemy aka. Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell, not to mention conservatives everywhere - can't wait until 2012! :sarcasm:).

3. The GOP blocking adjournment and going into Pro-Forma Session is a bunch of BS !!!
I think that other than fearing President Obama would recess appoint Warren, I think they were afraid he'd also recess appoint Goodwin Liu to the Federal Appeals Court.

Question:
I can see that perhaps the GOP could block all adjournments during the rest of the year, but don't they HAVE TO adjourn at the end of the year before the next session of Congress begins January?
That might be the only chance Obama has of pushing in some recess appointments ;(

4. That's a good question. So far, I haven't heard of one legal opinion re: the latest GOP feint.

Perhaps Rachel and Lawrence O'Donnell will tell us on Tuesday. In fact, I'm pretty sure they will address your excellent query. Perhaps John Dean will guest on the show. Team Obama is most likely already on it via their legal team.

8. And there's a good chance we could lose the Senate
The other possibility (which would be frustrating) would be the Senate flips Republican and the House flips back to the Democrats.

10. Anything he says about ending wars I will never believe
He might get us into one or two more wars, but none will truly end, like the way we pulled out of 'Nam. That was a real end, Iraq was End In Name Only.
