I wish Nancy Pelosi were President
Just saw where she said SS and Medicare aren't on the table. She's the only one in the democratic leadership with spine. Harry Reid and Obama, not so much.

2. Shouldn't you then remove the pic in your siggie? Why would you still support
someone who you think isn't a good president or a true leader?

3. Ah, so now she's forgiven for taking GWB impeachment off the table?
I guess if you hear the magic words, all is good.

Depending on what day it is.

And what the situation of the day happens to be.

What happened to Cuomo? How did he get pushed aside so quickly?

I don't know if the OP was personally involved in the DU "FIRE NANCY!" storm of a couple of years ago but I thought the same thing when I read it.

5. I dont think GWB shouldve been impeached
Terrible President but impeachment should be reserved for serious crimes like Watergate etc, not stuff like Lewinsky and other trivia

Nancy also got a decent health care bill passed at a time when Obama was ready to abandon it.

15. On what basis do you conclude the President was abandoning anything?
Did she say anything to that effect?

Or are you just at the point where you assume that any problem in the discussions is the fault of the President one way or another?

It sounds like the President just hasn't said the magic words.

But would it matter at this point if he did? Or would HE be accused of "empty promises"?

6. I'm her loyal follower. However, your comment reminds me of what was done to Reid.
When DADT went through---Choi made a similar comment about Reid over Obama. This is just another way to deflect support in order to suggest that Obama is a worthless. This was again done by using a celebrity like Lady Gaga on this board.

She was in the meeting with the President there. She knew what was discussed at the meeting, SS is not on the table---this is not all Pelosi alone here. Obama organized it--but I see he's not worth getting any credit in this. Fine.

8. She delivered hundreds of good Bills that died in Harry Reid's Senate, in large part because Obama
"kept his powder dry." Now we know what he was hoarding his political capital for - cutting Social Security and Medicare.

10. What the hell? They died in the Senate because of votes by Repubs and Dems alike.
Not because of anything Reid or the President did. This is beyond ridiculous---what is up with all the revisionism.

13. The Senate didn't have to will
to call the Repubs on the filibuster threat. They should've forced them to actually filibuster instead of letting bills die for procedural reasons. Force their hand, call them on their bluff. And yes I blame Reid for that.

I love this, it's fucking brilliant.

It's the first time I've ever seen someone successfully manage to malign two people (Reid/Obama) while deifying a third (Pelosi) all of the same party no less for hundreds of failed bills. Of course said bills and Congressional voting records remain unknown.

The way you worked that is just fantastic, I need a slow clap smilie for this occasion.

22. Bows. The House Bills that failed to clear the Senate have voting records attached, both
those that died in Committee and those that failed on the Senate floor.

We can also attach any public statements that Obama may have made and correlate those with the failure of the Bill in the Senate.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think all that's on the public record.

14. If she doesnt Cave on her Principles i doubt anyone would turn on her (Obama i am looking at you)
Edited on Thu Jul-07-11 03:33 PM by vroomvroom
Lets get serious...democrats campaign as progressives but when they get into office they govern like republicans out of sheeer fear of gop anger..Obama especially.
Now ask yourself...if voters in America overwhelmingly have progressive ideals and vote for democrats that share the same then why shouldnt they turn on them if they turn the other cheek as Obama has done consistently.

So if Pelosi were to stick to her principles then its doubtful they would turn on her. At least not her base...why would they...at least she'd be FIGHTING...even if she loses her battles it the idea of TRYING not caving that counts.

16. Obama hasn't caved on his principles...but everyone interpreted as such.
And that will be the same thing with Nancy.

Actually don't waste my time with voters in America. Voters in America voted for fools like Walker, Christie, McCain and so on. The reason we have a Republican Congress and we're having our President deal with fuckin' fools in Congress is because of voters in America. Which means this non-sense that voters in America support progressive ideals is nonsense. Why? Because they voted for the people who have the President deal with a compromise because Congress can't get shit done, and then we have people such as yourself claiming the President is caving due to the fact that voters had him compromise with people who were voted in democratically. That says to me this nation is not as "progressive" as so many like to claim.

Many of the Republicans in power are still in power and aren't even facing a revote because obviously the American people support these idiots. So when you tell me that voters in America have overwhelming progressive ideals--it's belied by reality.

Obama has not strayed far from his ideals---he's however dealt with the cards he's been dealt---no thanks to a good portion of American voters.

18. It's actually ironic
Pelosi seems to fight harder as a minority leader than she did when she was actually in charge of the House.

24. Nancy Pelosi was unfairly criticized by a certain segment of the population here.
When she was minority leader. Specifically, for taking impeachment off the table. Some people never seemed to forgive her for that. But despite that, she has been a tremendous fighter for progressive values.
