Reid praises Rep debt ceiling proposal - 3 "Installment Plan"
Article at Market Watch -

Mitch McConnell to let President Barack Obama raise the debt ceiling on his own won praise from top Senate Democrat Wednesday morning, in a sign that the debt-limit impasse between the parties may be beginning to break.

Speaking on the Senate floor, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid called McConnell’s proposal “serious” and the Nevada Democrat said he was “heartened” by the idea, which would allow Obama to raise the limit by $2.4 trillion in three installments before the end of 2012.

“I believe that the Republican leader’s proposal, combined with ideas he and I have been discussing to force a vote on deficit reduction proposals, could go a long way toward resolving the impasse in which we find ourselves,” Reid said Wednesday morning

I'm posting this in the President Forum for a reason: Has he forgotten that the Democratic Party does not need this discussion 'open' in 2012 - ie an election year?

Whose side is he on anyways? So - we went great guns to help him keep his seat in 2010 and sinces he's NOT up for re-election he's willing to throw this bone to the Republicans?

Someone explain his strateRY to me.

1. Because Reid is a fucking idiot.
This isn't a JCPenny charge card. We're not renting our highways and military from Rent-A-Center. The ONLY reason the GOP has proposed an "installment plan" is because it assure the issue is still on the table during the 2012 election. America is still arguably the richest nation on earth. We don't need to go on some bullshit installment plan. Just commit and do it, dammit. WHEN WILL THE DEMS STOP FALLING FOR THE GOP'S TRICKS?

6. I do not yet have an opinion about
the McConnell proposal, but no, Reid is NOT an idiot. Does not mean I always agree with what he says or does, but an idiot he most certainly is not. Far from it.

2. Reid has been Obama's biggest opponent.
I'm not surprised he said this.

4. It's and installment plan for an item if you pay the $99.99
now you will save money, but if you pay it in installments you will pay $119.99. lol

5. Its a trap. But it also might be an offer worth taking if it has the votes.
It gets us past the debt ceiling drama. It ensures the Republicans can't force a default. It does so with no immediate spending cuts in an economy that can't really handle too many of them right now. It might be worth the political trap it potentially sets up.

8. But won't it just come up for debate
Two more times? Back at square one - 'debating' a debt ceiling issue?

9. Yes & no
mostly no. A toothless debate. A debate in which they can register their oposition, but cannot do anything else unless they get the two thirds that would prevent a presidential veto. Very different from what's going on now. This being said, and cornered as McConnell may be, he still is a vicious (and unfortunately smart) rattlesnake.

13. They can debate it all they want. The deal would still leave it all up to the President.
There would be no realistic reason to fear the damn thing not being raised. It would get raised because Barack Obama says so.

I smell a "fixing" coming for a certain program....

Oh and on edit...I though this offer was proof of collapse of the republicans, you know, it's so absurd, so just, INSANE. Well Harry likes it, it seems.
